"The 96 people who died at the Hillsborough football stadium disaster in 1989 were unlawfully killed and a catalogue of failings by police and the ambulance services contributed to their deaths, the jury at the new inquests into the disaster has determined."

The actions of the Police directly contributed to the deaths of the 96, why can't you just leave that alone?

Not disputing findings of h report, but fan important to remember what is was like then - crowd behaviour in the 70s and 80s meant police purpose was to stop crowd trouble. Crowd safety was barely considered. At Hboro it took quite some time for the full horror to be apparent, police auto assumed was pitch invasion / trouble. This was actually a natural assumption for those times. Crowd trouble was depressingly common, don't know if you were around then my friend.
Remember the fences, Chelsea's were electrified. Seems bizarre now but it's how it was.
The behaviour of some fans was worse than others : Leeds, Chelsea, Utd, WHU, and Lpool among the very worst. The awful actions/inactions of the police at Hboro will have been with the mindset of stop these people (fans, esp Lpool fans) causing trouble.

Jesus wept.... So many inaccuracies, I'll just point out one because I really can't be bothered, Chelsea's fences were not electrified, that was just a hair brained idea from Ken Bates.

I wouldn't bother mate. After all this time, the unravelling of the cover ups and the overwhelming concrete evidence, if people still want to bury their heads and blame fans then there is no way to have a reasoned argument. Pity anybody that can't look past tribal football rivalries when it comes to matters like this.

Heysel has probably had the greatest effect on the club, and I wish Kings Dock wasn't screwed up by Kenwright and company, if we had that we would have had Sheik Mansour.

Bill Kenwright's existence....

#bringbackjohnson

don't understand the fanatical hatred people on here have for BK

saved the club back when Johnson was doing everything possible to destroy it, oversaw a return to the top of the table (prev two seasons excepted) and then found an investor like he said he would
we'd be in a far worse place without him

I think Kenwright is a decent honest fella and genuinely has the clubs best interest at heart. Just don't thing he's that great at the business side of football.

Interesting post. Obviously Heysel is a key moment but not really in our hands. I suppose we could have taken civil action against the government/LFC.

A couple of others;
1) 1970/1 Not sacking Caterrick/selling Ball. We should have had a plan in place to keep that young team together and try to dominate going forward.

2) The late 80's. We should have gone and signed Rush and made a big statement.

3) 97/8. We were linked with Cruyff and Grey and ended up with Kendall. You look at the impact Cruyff had at Ajax and then Barca at a similar time and where they were to where they went too this was a massive loss. We had won the cup 2 years previously and had the FA Youth Cup winning team. Cruyff working with our academy would have been fantastic and moved us on massively.

We should have probably got Grey and had him working alongside Kendall.

Mate, there were electric fences installed at Stamford Bridge - I saw them - but the GLC prevented them being switch on. But that's not the point.
My broader point is that football fans behaviour at the time and previous 10/15 yrs directly resulted in police approach of fans as "the enemy". And for the idiots it was mutual. This disconnect and adversary position was at the core of Hboro. But if you want to just believe "dem busies killed them" then fine.
Ill digress, bear with me, but friends of mine went to the '84 final in Rome and were terrorised after beating Roma. Their minibus windows were smashed and 2 were beaten up pretty badly. They also went to the '85 final, and went looking forward to "smashing a few spics" (mates words not mine) as payback for Rome. Anecdotal but they weren't alone in travelling to the '85 final with that in mind. Or perhaps you accept the RS view that was the Belgian police fault?
Cheers, & have a good weekend.
