If we were sold this summer to some multi millionair, EFC are not lucky enough to get a billionaire, And the transfer kitty was £100 million. Would you trust it to David Moyes, or would you prefer a new manager with new ideas. ??

Think Moyes has endured enough barren periods in the transfer market to give him a good go with some proper spending power

Still dont think we will be bought out though

Well...
IF we were sold this summer... Hell would freeze over, and pigs would start flying!:D
There's a better chance of that happening...

I think he deserves the chance to spend that money but i don't think he'd do that much better than he already has with us even if he did have £100 million to spend.

We'd probably get into the last Champions League spot and maybe get to the first knockout round of it, or maybe get to the semi's of the Europa League.

Probably get a Carling Cup win though with regular top 6 finishes.

We'd improve but not to the extent some people think we would.

I would like to think that if this magical influx of CASH did occurs, that Moyes would be given an opportunity to build a squad with a ton of cash. I think he has worked with old mother hubbard's bare assed cupboard for long enough to have a shot at managing with a full war chest.

Thinking with my head I'd rather us go after a top, top manager. If we got that much money I'm sure even Mourihno might fancy it.

Thinking with my heart and conscience, then really Moyes should be given it to spend. He's stuck with the club with nought to spend for a long, long time. To kick him out when we did have money would be a bit callous.

But it's not like we'll ever get any money anyway.

Absolutely Moyes with money I have no doubt would turn us into a club competing at the top end and in cup finals year in year out!

First of all ... of course I would. Moyes is one of the main attractions of our club -- without him I think we're less likely to be taken over. The idea someone would buy our destitute, no-revenue, no-stadium club and then fire the man who is responsible for our (this season notwithstanding) massively over performing our spending just doesn't make any sense. So yes I absolutely trust Moyes to spend that money.

I know this is a hypothetical but I keep seeing people make this same mistake about underestimating how much money is required. The idea that we'd be purchased by a millionaire (specifically you mention not a billionaire) and then he'd give us 100 million for transfers (what about wages?) is frankly insane.

Why would a millionaire give us 100m (which, once we pay the wages for those new players, is really 120-130m+)?

What is his net worth? You said "not a billionaire" so split the middle and say he's worth 500m. Let's ignore that most of those types have a lot of their worth tied up in stocks and say he's 100% liquid (which is highly unlikely but whatever).

He purchases the club for 150-200m? Let's say even 125m which I think is low. Then he is putting a further, let's say 125m (again low) with wages, into the squad. 250m gone. That's half his entire net worth gone in one year. If we want a stadium he has to completely bankrupt himself and move into a council house (and does 250m even buy a stadium these days?). Oh and with our new higher wage bill we're going deeper and deeper into debt (which he didn't clear under this scenario so we're looking at 100m+ in debt in a couple of years) while the stadium is being built.

Not to mention, even after 100m on transfers, even then we would still have spent LESS than the SIX other clubs we are fighting with for a CL spot.

I know it's just a hypothetical and not to be taken too seriously but I can't help but think people are vastly underestimating the amount of money that a new owner would need to have and need to spend. If we get taken over by anyone who isn't a billionaire then things might be slightly better than they are now (we might get 5-10m to spend every year, including wages, instead of nothing) but this isn't a game for millionaires anymore. If a millionaire buys us don't expect any fireworks (and 100m is how much we might get to spend if someone with 2-3 billion+ buys us ... if we're really, really lucky and he's really into football).

May seem like nit-picking but honestly I think people's heads are in the clouds about some of these issues.

Thinking with my head I'd rather us go after a top, top manager. If we got that much money I'm sure even Mourihno might fancy it.

"Hey Mourinho, how would you like a transfer budget considerably less than you have now to come manage a team that needs to be upgraded in many areas and has to fight six other teams for a CL spot instead of the team you manage now which already has a world class squad and is virtually guaranteed CL football every year?"

"Sounds great ... where do I sign?"

As sad as it is to say lads, a 100m kitty isn't turning the head of the likes of Mourinho these days. City spent that much in a month.

I would at least like to see Moyes be given a chance with a proper budget for a couple of years, overall he's done well despite the financial constraints.

Moyes is a great manager, if it was my money I would definitely give him a chance. Moyes could be as good as Ferguson if he had the money I reckon.

To be fair Ferguson built on the foundations of the 'golden generation' of giggs, scholes etc..... the big money spending on Ferdinand, Veron etc came one they where established mid to late 90's....
