HYPOTHETICAL scenario I've had running in my mind, not even a rumor - I can't be clear enough on this...
But ever since I saw Aguero yesterday, striking a good partnership with Dzeko and hearing that Tevez seems likely to stay, it seems likely that some combination of those 3 are first choice. Balotelli, Adebyor and Santa Cruz are still around and fill out the rest. And we've all seen how ticked off Mancini was with Balotelli with his showboating and immaturity.
If I were in Mancini's shoes, the best solution would actually be to loan out Balotelli (and likely sell Santa Cruz).
So IF ManCity were to loan out Mario Balotelli, would you want/welcome him at Everton? Let's even pretend that they will pay all wages etc. 100% free loan for us.
My thought?
Even though we could desperately use a world class striker, he has such potential to wreck team chemistry that I would rather Everton pass on him. No long term potential for us since there is no way we'd ever be able to afford him, we'd just be helping them out. In theory we may score more goals for the season, but he wouldn't fit a 4-5-1 well anyway. I think he would cause way more problems than he'd solve.
And he has no loyalty to the club either.
Why did I mention that? Because of the apparent double standard I seem to be setting for myself. I've publicly stated recently that I AM in favor of us bringing Barton in on a free. Is there really a big difference between the two then? Arguably we need a striker more than a midfielder right now.
I think Barton has turned a corner in his life (with alcohol at least). I think coming back to his favored team could be great for him and for us. I think he is at least TRYING to do better and our team/manager could help him in that.
I think Balotelli is just convinced he's the greatest ever and isn't putting in the effort to be a good teammate, mature at all, and is/would be JUST a mercenary (and a largely ineffective one for us).
That's my take, what do you think? Would you take Balotelli? Would you take Barton? Do you think this is a double standard?
