..the problem with having a player like Keane is that we have to defend deep and get defenders and defensive midfielders supporting him. We can be a decent defensive unit but it makes it very difficult to get the ball and players up the other end of the pitch.

I think thats the case if hes the primary CB. But I dont think he should be. I think he should ideally be paired with a Koscielny type. If hes paired with a top class CB who has speed, I think that we can play further up the pitch. In fact, I think it might be ideal, so when balls are put to strikers near the middle of the field, Keane presses up to win headers and win the ball, and the other CB, our true #1 CB stays a little further back to cover.

If left as the main man and pushed up the field then yes, hes going to struggle as its just against his strengths. But with the right pairing I think hed be a great fit. Its all a puzzle where pieces need to fit. You dont want 2 big tall CBs on a team that plays a high line, that win all kinds of headers but get caught out for lack of speed, just like you dont want 2 smaller but faster CBs that sit back, making lots of interceptions but losing most balls in the box. You need the right mix to really put out a proper team.
