Shame, he was definitely one of the better ones
...

Although maybe with his new position, it will raise the standards a bit in the future.....What's his new position exactly?

Been a shadow of his former self for the last 2 seasons at least, back in his pomp he was head and shoulders above the others around. I think that World Cup final took a lot of his arrogance/confidence away and that was the beginning of his decline unfortunately, worryingly now it seems the FA have Clattenburg lined up as his successor for all the top games.

And as international rep at the Euros and World cups.

+1.

WC final did for him. Should have got a grip on the Dutchies from the start. How De Jong never got binned is still one of life's great mysteries

Howard Webb was rumoured to be 'close' to SAF. That riled alot of Liverpool fans, but in the same breath they say Mark Clattenberg should be in place of Howard Webb ? Deluded bunch of tools to say the least, dont even get me started on clattenberg........ mentioning his name has got me angry like Hulk, Ohhh bugger off GOT you had to do this to me didnt you !!!!! F'n Clattenberg..........

I could see why he was reluctant to do it though, sending someone off in a WC final opens you up to all sorts of madness afterwards. That Dutch team were ungovernable.

It was a train wreck of a game by the end though. Shame. Felt sorry for Webb, for as you rightly point out, he would have been ripped a new one if he'd really done what he ought to have & dished the cards early and hard

Dat Sowt Yorkshire bizzy gave us nottin lad...e always 'ad it inferuz like dee FA and UEFA and dat Bilderburg group lad.

I understood him not throwing DeJong off. No one wants to make a final 11 v. 10 and that early in the match would have pretty much decided the final. He was a decent ref though. Never really passed out cards like candy which I liked.
