How Well Have The Board Backed Moyes?

As I underlined, it was a general overview.

You could obviously go into greater depth. If anything, I would say our wage bill has remained consistent.

What does "backed" actually mean?

Gave him 100m a year to blow on whatever players he wants and the rest on coke and hookers?

Or given him the money for players that he has actually asked for

WE DON'T KNOW!

Ok, chances are he has always been told he doesn't have millions and millions to splash out so he has to be astute and clever in the transfer market.

And he has been.

If he had Chelsea type money to splash would he of just bought expensive flops?

So have the board backed Moyes? Only they and him truly know.

So Moyes asked not to sign any major players last summer until Yakubu was signed? Or the summer Rooney was sold, he only wanted about 2 million? This summer he really didn't want anyone except a few freebies?

Just done this out of curiosity really. You could pick the bones out of it if you wanted to but it gives a general idea behind how well the board have backed David Moyes in the transfer market since he joined the club.

Players brought in who we have paid a transfer fee for.
Gosling £1m
Yakubu £11.25
Leighton Baines £6m
Pienaar £2.5m
Beattie £6.5m
Jagielka £4m
Jutkiewicz £400k
da Silva £700k
Lescott £3m
Johnson £8.6m
Spencer £220k
Howard 'undisclosed', believed to be £3m
van der Meyde £1.8m
Valente £1.5m
Neville £3.5m
Arteta £2m (and initial £1m loan fee)
Kroldrup £5m
Davies £3.5m
Ruddy £250k
Cahill £2m
Bent £450k
Kilbane £1m
McFadden £1.25
Martyn £500k
Yobo £4.5m + £1m loan
Wright £3.5m
Rodrigo £1.25

Now my maths is awful but a quick summary brings me to;
Players In Total = £81.25m

Now players we have sold under David Moyes...
Johnson £10.5m
McFadden £4.75m
Beattie £4m
Naysmith £1m
Davies £3m
Kilbane £2m
Silva Unknown, Paid £700k so lets say £700k
Bent £2m
Kroldrup £3.2m
Chadwick £250k
Gravesen £2.45m
Linderoth £1.75m
Rooney £25m, ish.
Radzinski £1.75m
O'Hanlon £150k
Pembridge £500k
McLeod £250k

Again, you could pick the bones out of transfer fees and maths not the best but I quickly make that...

Players Out Total = £66.5m

Now I had a late night last night so odds are I have gone disastrously wrong somewere but I make that £81.25m spent and £66.5m received? So that to me is just under £15m in how many years?...

Make of that what you will.

And most of that was before Kirkby raised its ugly head.

This kind of comparison halts a little.. you also have to weigh in their wages. I think our current squad earns more in wages than our squad did before Moyes.

Everyone knows we dont have megabucks. Kenwright should sell up because I dont think we can survive another season like this. Big money game now to survive.

Have they backed Moyes? I think so in a constrained way. Did Moyes have money this year? He had £15million confirmed (for Felline) and that he had a £3mill bid rejected for Hunt. And I cant see him going for Hunt at 3mill only then to splash 15mill on a player -- so Moyes had money.

What the board or Moyes did with it is a nothing short of a mess that no one knows anything about.

I think the board have backed him all they can. Then there's the flip side that Moyes doesnt know how to spend (or spends wisely).

Its all down to him signing a new contract. If he does then he's happy. I'll be happy too. But we need to sell big time.
