How many players do we need?

Actually, if we really need money for new legs, I would better say sell Barkley for the highest price possible.

We've been basically carrying him for whole season, he's talented but a luxury player for the moment, for his price we can fetch 3-4 decent ones to plug the more serious gaps.

But of course I know the GOT crowd will kill me out there...

Oh Michael, the veil is slipping day by day.

As for the squad, think Roberto has said already we'll need 6 players to cope with the demands of European football. Whether that means on top of what we've got (doubtful IMO) or he's taking into consideration outgoings I'm not sure.

IMO we need to loose alcaraz, guaye and vellios. We then need to add...

CB - Martins-indi, and promote/use a couple of youngsters in the squad.

RB - Seamus can't play every game! Maybe stones will offer the backup to him, although I see him as a CB now. Micah Richards could be a good addition for both CB/RB

CM - I have no doubt Barry will be back, add Gibson in there with McCarthy and Ross's ability to play there, plus that little whipper snapper ledson who I can see making a step up next season...adding 1 more for reasonable money could be the tactic. Maybe a diame or simlar type available for similar cash.

ACM - Ross, Osman and Naismith have all done a job there this season, even Mirallass has at times. Really not sure if he'll go all out and buy a dedicated player for that posistion. Maybe a squad addition offering a option there as well as elsewhere. A better younger Osman? Holtby could be a good addition IMO.

Winger - Think Del will be back again on loan and with pienaar, McGeady and mirallas I don't think he will or needs to do anything in the summer. Maybe in January depending on performances.

CF - I have no doubt we'll buy 1 big striker. Whether that's lukaku, bony, Remy or whoever. It's a must!! I also think it's nailed on Traore will be back on loan, confirmed by bobby keeping him whilst injured, kone will be back and Naismith and mirallas also provide an option.

In - Richards, martins-indi, Diame, Holtby, Lukaku. (Traore) (Delefoe)

Out - Alcaraz, Duffy, Gyaye, Vellios.

That would be some squad with those additions.

Micah Richards would only leave to be first choice. Seamus is better so why would he swap benches?

He's gonna want to stay top 6 team. IMO with his playing time over the last few years he doesn't walk into any of the top 6 teams. He's gota surely expect a fight for his place, which he doesn't even get that at city. He would here.

As I said with Richards, he's both a competent RB and CB. With all the games next season, he'd be guarenteed a lot of football between the 2 posistions even if he didn't become regular starter.

Serious question though mate, would you sell Naismith this summer? was thinking about it earlier and out of the potentials we'd get a decent fee for he's the only one i could see us coping without missing hugely

I think we play better with naismith in the team, he makes space with his clever movement and always keeps the oposition defence on their toes. i think he will be better next season too.

I guess we will have multiple lists drawn up dependant on no1 targets.

Lukaku signs = list A

list A will feature players running contracts down or free

Lukaku goes elsewhere = list B

10 mil signing plus striker, possibke expensive play maker and similar to list A but with a bit more maneuverability on price.

I reckon a group of 25 comprising of senior first teamers, a few new signings, and the most promising of our young crop should be enough.

ignoring the players that we actually don't own, we will have
GK: Robles, Howard
RD: Coleman, Hibbo
CD: Alcaraz, stones, jags, distin
LD: Baines, Oviedo
CM: Osman, Gibson, Barkley, McCarthy
Wings: Pienaar, McGeady, Mirallas
FWDs: Kone, Naismith.
19 senior squad players.
Removed Vellios and Gueye as have not made the grade.
We have Lundstram (CM)
Garbutt (LD)
Browning (RD, CD)
Duffy (CD)
McAleny (Winger)
and maybe Ledson (CM) and Grant (CM).
Of those maybe 2/3 will be able to step up this season.
For me this means we have a squad floating around 21/22 key players, with dearth and tumbleweeds threatening in the areas of CM, Wings and up front. For me we should be bringing in a striker, winger and CM on a permanent because of those reasons.
Cannot bring in players solely on loan, particularly in the area of wing with Pienaar on his last legs and CM, with only one back up for our three man midfield. Not to mention that having only 2 strikers is a crime.
if we bring in those three permanents, we should then be looking at 3/4 loans to reinforce areas, likely upfront, to bring our striking ranks to four, wing, and CM again in perhaps the form of a number 10 type player.
So for me, 3 permanents in the way of a CM, Winger, ST,
3 loans in the way of a CM Winger, ST.
6 new players in total.
Aside from that however, Youth promotion will provide the extra depth required by Europe

Kone, Gibson and Oviedo back. Barry signed permanently and Deulofeu and Traore back on loan. I think we can bank on those but after that is anyone's guess.

Another striker so we have 3 seniors. Lukaku maybe? It's important that whoever it is signs proper.

Two more midfielders. Cover for the two deep roles and maybe another wide player.

Cover at right back unless Bobby thinks Hibbert and Browing have that covered between them.

The only ones leaving should be Vellios and Gueye. People saying the likes of Pienaar, Osman or Alcaraz need to get real. We may end up playing something like 60 games and players with their experience are going to have a role to play.

Good assessment, especially the last part.

On a side note, we should just pay for Gibson to have Bionic legs installed.

25 is a reasonable number
two players for each position, a third Keeper and a couple of utility players/youngsters to cover long term injuries

I have no wish to have any more of the Alcaraz experience - we should just get rid of him.

If Lukaku was 26 years old people would be less likely to want to sign him. The reason people want him is that they expect him to get better, I don't think this is the case, he is physically mature now. Its his touch and work rate I have issues with.

It just reminds me of when George Burley said Kenwynne Jones was another Drogba in the making at 22... He just never improved technically.
