Player Valuation: £1.5m
And now the real horror begins..

After the heady summer hopes of Arshavin, Love, Moutinho etc..

The clock ticks and the bar begins to get lowered.. and lowered until..

So come on down Alan Smith and now today things seem to be getting serious around Michael Johnson ... jeez whos next?

I'd much prefer to work with who we've got than bring in a pile of the overhyped, unproven and journeymen.

Lowering the bar now and all the hard work and self esteem building of last season is lost.

I lol @ u 4 calling a 20 year old future star "overhyped, unproven and journeymen". I just lol, nothing more needs to be said.

Did u google his name and get :

Michael Duane Johnson (born September 13, 1967 in Dallas, Texas) is a retired American sprinter who holds the current world records in the 200 meters, 400 meters, and 4 x 400 m relay. He also has run the fastest 300 meters of all time, an event not recognized by the IAAF as an official "world record". He won four Olympic gold medals and was crowned world champion nine times.[1]

I would too, but there is a middle ground that would satisfy me, which is one or two "utility" signings NOW, TODAY, and then I'd be prepared to wait for the good signings.

The fact that there's been NOTHING scares me.

Johnson is massively overhyped and he is unproven.

Yes he may be a 'future star' .. then again he may not.

Simply we need and the success of last years team, deserves more than this.

Smith is a journeyman.. albeit yet to embark.

Johson would be a cracking signing. You say you would prefer us to go with what we've got rather than lower the bar, yet if we go with what we've got and bring nobody in, with a few more injuries we wont even be able to put out a first 11. We need numbers, and a 1 or 2 real quality players like Moutinho.

Yeah Johnson would be a good signing as an 'as well as' but now its looking like he's the main target -one to lift us to the next level who we're supposed to be excited about. He's just not that. The lads a decent player but we have a team full of decent players.

I do agree, to push on this season we need real quality players and IMO we need two minimum.

Theres still some time until the deadline. I want to see the club keeping the bar high and pushing right to the line to get in players of the very higest calibre. I really believe its crucial for building on the success of last season. Anything less will be such a wasted opportunity.

I'm really pissed, as I know we all are, at the shambles of the summer. I want the club to hear the disappointment felt and keep expressing a desire to direct whatever resources are available towards quality.

Later we can get in a few 'future stars' and makeweights but first off we should absolutely be going all out to get some quality to excite.

After enduring the last few months its the least we deserve!

I don't want Johnson, like someone said he's been massively over hyped because he's English. If I'm spending 8-12 million on a midfielder I want them to atleast played more than 30 games, I don't think he has.

He had about 10 good games, got injured, came back and had about 15 bad games. He's completely unproven and like every English talent he's badly over hyped.

i really dont know where this johnson over hyped feeling comes from.

when he was at everton a fair few people at the club rated him highly.
when he started for man city last season , he was an unknown quantity.
he but in some very solid performances against very good opposition.
any hype about the lad has come from his performances and not just hear say on potential.

hes young , tough , has a pretty good technique and would improove the squad imo.

personnaly i would be more than happy to have him here.

id prefer him to smith or fletcher any day of the week.

I think he's a good player now with the potential to be great, the kind of central midfielder you can build a club around.

He would contribute in a meaningful way right now and that influence would only grow with each passing year.

This is a player we've been linked with for some time now, so it is not like Moyes has reached for a Plan B with Michael Johnson.
