I have not really felt it until this month, the company work for went into administration, then bought out but a VC the subsequent headcount reduction & redundancies & office closures mean i will be redundant in April 2011.

I'm cool like, i'm confident of getting another job, but the bills and tax and NI i pay are killing me, as well as a 2.5% VAT increase is looking grim.

I won't be going to Barbados for Burns Night , this year .

THAT , I CAN say ,...

Laid off in May of 2009 and was out of work for 7 months and it's been a real uphill struggle financially to stay afloat. I work 2 jobs and market a travel business on the side. But a little hard work never killed anyone and I managed to keep my home unlike a lot of others.

No YOU'RE the solider. My problems are nothing. Money comes and money goes. Everything is temporary good and bad. Stay healthy so I can buy you a drink when I can scrape up the money to visit Goodison and watch the mighty Everton!

I work for the public sector. I foresee a massacre. Loads of graveyard humour going on at work right now. BTW - those gold plated public sector pensions they keep banging on about - in my sector the average pension is 4K pa, if you're a woman it drops to 2K pa. Remind me again what MPs get ...

massively i worked 2 jobs 1 in the morning (which i still have) and 1 in the afternoon and weekends in the public sector however had no work since march and been told not going to get any in the forseeable future see now about £400 month worse of so really struggling. However would just like to reiterate what johnnydawg68 said i may be struggling however when i see me little lad fit and healthy keeps me smiling and battling

Every friday is a game of 'wait for the lay off tap on the shoulder' ,but my firm has a nice habit of 'temporary lay offs' -which in a nutshell -gives you no notice (half an hour at best - leaves you dangling on job seekers for a two months - and get another job you lose any redundancy entitlement (18 years in my case) - :(

thats shocking mate

**** all. I'm burning fivers here.

Come on Tory [Poor language removed], is that the best you've got?

thats shocking mate

I Know, but suppose I still have a job at the moment and the rule is once they bring you back they can't do it again for 3 month's -The annoying thing is I sought legal advice and the only option is to resign and claim unfair dismissal (big gamble could lose everything).
Can't believe in the year 2010 the employment law contains such a massive loophole for bosses to exploit.......

Tbh I've been very lucky and I've not really been affected at all but a lot of my family have. I drive HGV1 and the work in our place has gone through the roof. They cant find enough drivers at the moment to cover it all even with a lot of agency lads coming in. My son got a [Poor language removed] deal though. He got laid off and the company he worked for refused to pay him the wages and holiday he was owed. Had to take them to a tribunal to get some of it back but it took about 5 months to get it and then he only got half of of what he was owed. He's got a wife and son to look after and had to sell his car to get by. Theres no justice in this life.

Financially, it hasn't affected me at all.

I will be getting my 90 days notice soon though I imagine, unless the Council wanna keep me on like ;].
