How do you get through your work day?

Doing an MSc is hard with a job, I passed my first year and binned it off after that - too hard being a dad and having a job and studying, well done for persevering, you’re much better motivated than me.
To be fair, I don't have children yet (unfortunately) and work at the same place I'm getting my degree at (though degree and work are not connected whatsoever). But I'm allowed to take some liberties like spontaneous home office days. Still I'm doing a lot of extra hours since the clear and well-defined tasks at work are much more appealing sometimes than the self-directed grind of working on a master's thesis.

But thanks fot the kind words, much appreciated!

I feel like I'm chasing the next grade and ready for it but at the same time feel like management have a way of holding me back. It's not that I'm doing something wrong, people have different ways and I don't always do things their way or to their format. I feel a bit stuck most days, like I'm doing my job with no issue but getting to the next step seems quite near yet too far.

Dropped down to 4 days on shift work about 3 years ago, its wierdly more hours than 5 days but every few weeks you get a week off.
Thats sacrosanct, a week just getting leathered, dog walking, watching everton through hazy clouds of alcohol without worrying about work for a few days.

Got caught with an earpiece in a few weeks ago whilst working, I've been listening to around 3 audio books a week for the last 3 years to get through work. Plus one day of my favourite podcasts.
Its been great but now i'm screwed for at least a year, now I've gotta just listen to my brain, bah...

Please tell me you don't work in I.T.

I worked in a very disciplined environment for 36 years in a job I didn't really enjoy for the final 10yrs, It was becoming more of a stress but it was decent pay and a good pension.
Almost 4 years ago I retired and I now have a stress free part time job with next to no responsibility on basic wage in a supermarket and I absolutely love it.
I work with great down to earth, honest people and my hours are in and the job I done before I realise it.
It will be make your mind up time for me soon as shortly I'll be getting my state pension, I'd be sad to leave but I have the option to stay on.
Maybe that's worth it's own thread🙂
Should I stay or should I go now?

100% stay, unless it affects your tax situation when you get your pension ?

If you enjoy working part time and get on with your work mates, it`s a bit of a no brainer and once you get your state pension, it would be similar to a paid hobby.

I was only talking about the same thing this morning whilst out walking the dog, with a fella who`s just about to hit his state pension age.

He`s a semi retired mechanic and he was saying that he has no intention of packing in, as he loves his job and has a loyal customer base. He works 4/5 hours a day, then goes to the pub for a couple to meet up with the day time crew in his local.

It gets you out of the house, you have the stimulation of interacting with your work mates and customers, which in turn keeps you mentally happy and you`ve got a bit of " pocket money " on top of your work / state pension.

Definitely stay ;)
