How did you become an Evertonian?

Then came plucky little Everton.

Why would somebody support Everton? Not the best history.

I did a bit of research. We were always overshadowed by Liverpool. Even during our most successful period, they were somehow better. I tried to make myself feel better by saying Liverpool is my team.

hi Mick x

Your allowed to name drop,I had a school friend who's Dad (Jackie Grant) and brother (David) both played for the club.Plus I could hear the roar when the teams came out from my bedroom and went to Gwlady's St school so I suppose I couldn't really support any other team.
I've told this story a couple of times over the years but here goes. My dad was Red and he stood on the kop, and he said I was too
little to go. My grandad was Blue and he always sat in the stands at either the Gwladys or Bullens, so he took me. I know that because I could visualise the players running out. That was in the early 50's and the reason I've quoted your post, 'mascoq66700', is because Jackie Grant once gave me two shillings. I don't remember it, but my grandad told me about it when I was older.

I was a hooked Evertonian straight away, still am, of course and sometimes wonder how things would have turned out if my dad had taken me first.

I did go to the pit with him in later years when Everton were away and we sometimes sat in Kemlyn Rd. Just think, if he hadn't been so tight
and he gone in the stand all the time and taken me first...... thank you God.

Dad was/is a blue. My two brothers are blue , sister is a bloody red ( always a runt in a litter ). My three kids are blue . Had to be , or they wouldn't have got any tea . Grandson is also blue . Fave player...Barkley . All a load of tits...But in that nice Everton way :D

Told the story a few times before, but here it comes (by using the search option):

Didn't find out I was a chosen one, untill I was a twelve year old. Looking back, I firmly believe (or at least like to) it was fate that coupled Everton to Fortuna Sittard in the ECWC back in 1985. From the moment I first heard the name Everton, there was something mystical about them. Started looking for their results in the months before the encounter.

Remember listening to the radio, when Everton played Fortuna at Goodison Park. As I just turned 13 year a few months ago I wasn't able to travel down to Goodison to see the game myself. I never forget the applausse Fortuna got after the match from the Everton crowd. (That was what the commentator told us at least).

Did go to the Sittard game though and was stood directly alongside a group of Evertonians. As there was quite some bad press in those days regarding the English teams hooligan following, I wasn't feeling to comfortable to stand so close to the away supporters. One of the travelling Evertonians must have noticed that, as he came over and handed me his scarf. From that day on I was hooked on Everton FC. Was great to see them destroying Bayern Munich in the next round and unbelievable to see them lift the ECWC in Rotterdam.

So, maybe I was not born an Evertonian, but definately chosen to become one and will remain so, untill my dying day.

Would probably be supporting a Championship side by now, if it wasn't for that fatefull day back in 1984 when the draw coupled Everton with Fortuna. As I was a big fan of everything that had to do with Robin Hood back then, I kind of took towards Nottingham Forest as my team to follow. Luckily Everton found and saved me, although I remain to hold a bit of a soft spot for Forest.

Never forget that the RS didn't win the FA cup until 1965 and have spent eleven seasons in the old division 2. They're crap now and have been crap before. Pierce the fog of media hyperbole ; they're living on their dung heap of their perceived history.
I know, apparently their lack of FA cup success was cause for much hilarity to us blues pre 1965lol

Born. Was lucky though, as I'm from a big family of reds and blues. My dad though, supported Leeds until he was 10 - he just liked their team, but he still gets called a tit for it, and we'll never let him live it down. Thankfully he saw the light before I came along, and I was brought up as a blue.

Sorry to nitpick, I really am, but we are the fourth most successful team in the best league the world you know.

But think about it this way. Somebody in the US or Canada who has just been introduced to football, why would they opt to support the fourth most successful team? It's hard to explain.

Ok. But to say "not the best history" is still inaccurate in my view.

9 titles, 5 FA Cups and one European trophy is hardly 'not the best history' is it? That's before you take into account Dixie Dean and non-trophy history.

More like 'one of the best' histories.
