How can you not support the manager and support the team?

Walter Smith.

I bloody hated Walter Smith.

He wasn't good enough; a slap in the face after Kendall (ableit Kendall's Godfather 3 spell in charge).

Sacked in March 2002 -- just as I was returning to the UK for the first time in a decade with a chance to finally see my beloved blues in person again.

Two years later I'm singing "Champions league we're having a laugh" as Arsenal knock in their fifth or sixth ... David Moyes got us to the Champions League and was therefore responsible for a mantelpiece moment in my Everton life (not that horrible match obviously but the whole chase for 4th that season).

"4th isn't a trophy mate!"

It isn't? Thank god you're here I was so lost without you! It's my mantelpiece and since the first full Everton match I got to see was the 1985 Cup Final I have a LOT of room on my mantelpiece. I'm glad you filled yours up in the 60's and early 80's ... I look forward to buying it all at your estate sale.

If you're fighting relegation it seems simple: hope you win and then hope the crappy manager gets fired after you finish 17th.

I don't understand how you could have hated Moyes and not hate Koeman. The contrast in their reputation as players must blind people to the reality of them as managers.

I hate hating the Everton manager.

How did those of you who disliked Martinez or Moyes deal with the conflict?

Red Christmas tree having, Lukaku tapping upper, telling players there is no chance of us winning the leaguer ... oh he's just a straight talker. He seems to talk his way out of a job within a few years everywhere he works -- 9 jobs in 13 or so years of working as a manager ... and everywhere he goes they sing his praises non stop after he leaves!

See we have a new reality now. It doesn't matter what people do; it only matters if everyone's opposite did it first.

You know! Your opposite!

You don't have an opposite? Oh you have to get an opposite!

Donald Trump did (A) ... yeah but Hillary Clinton did (A) .. therefore it doesn't matter that Donald Trump did (A).

Get it?

Try again!

Ronald Koeman did (N) ... yeah but Martinez and Moyes (N)'d it up ... and now it doesn't matter that Koeman did (N).

Fly a plan over Goodison because we finished 11th and then call people knee-jerkers.

Moshiri's money seems dirty ... yeah but Chelsea and City's money is dirty ... and now it doesn't matter!

Just get yourself an opposite and then you every lousy, dirty, crappy thing you do is not your fault as long as your opposite did it first ... or even might do it in the future!

Moshiri keeps making mistakes ... like really basic mistakes ... mistakes that would worry me under almost any circumstances ... luckily he has an opposite! So he's got a decade at least where nobody can point out any issue with him as an owner without someone who learned to debate from Russian trolls saying "Bill Kenwright" back at them a thousand times as if that in any way impacts Moshiri.

(While Kenwright's past actions don't influence Moshiri his current thoughts do ... because Moshiri thinks he's smart and values his advice. So we're all going to be just fine.)

Let's talk about Everton!

"I think Koeman's problem is ..."

"MARTINEZ!"

"What? No I just think tactically I'm not seeing much from Koeman in regard to ..."

"MOYES!"

"Okay fine but surely Moshiri's recent comments about his undying admiration for Steven Gerrard gave you ..."

"KENWRIGHT!"

"Yeah you're right everything is great right now. We're playing some great football. Joy to watch."

"KOEMAN!"

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . and breathe.

I agree pretty much.

I've seen NOTHING so far to suggest Koeman is anything other than Moyes mk II. His football is turgid and his in-game management virtually non-existent.

It's easy to say that he inherited an awful, ageing squad - he most certainly did. But that shouldn't mask the fact that his actions (or lack of) since arriving have done nothing to suggest he 'gets' Everton, or Everton will ever 'get' him.

He's done sod all to ignite any passion, recharge the club and the fan base or show anywhere near the level of passion, dynamism or aptitude to get this club moving again.

I deplore writing people off so prematurely, but Koeman just doesn't excite me in any way. He'looks be just as ineffective as the current OAPs and drifters within the squad.

I very rarely turn against a manager in a major way. I did turn against Walter Smith in the end but I'm more sympathetic in his favour then I am the other two on my list because while he was an incipient joker he did have that vile snake in the grass Johnson doing the dirty on him for a large amount of his run. He was a total moron yes, that I'd never want to see anywhere near us again but I don't think he'd of been quite as bad with the right backing.

I despise Martinez, truly despise him. He's a talentless snake in the grass who's biggest attribute was and still is his ability to make people buy into his BS. He had loads of money to spend here, way more then any Everton manager has ever been afforded and yet he left us with this God awful side. He sacrificed results on a weekly basis in the name of his ego (he called it his philosophy) and would of easily seen us relegated within the next year or so if he hadn't of been sacked. I honestly can't get my head around the fact that loads of blues seemingly still think he's a good bloke. He was and still is total poison and I wish him nothing but professional misfortune for the rest of his career.

The only other manager I can't stand is Mike Walker but in a bizarre I was less angry with him and more angry with the club for choosing him. He was so far out of his comfort zone it was embarrassing. I don't think I've ever seen a man doing a job he was so unqualified for, I wouldn't trust him with a non league side. He's gotta go down as one (personally I'd say he's number one) of the worst manager'sI to ever be in the top flight or anywhere near it.

The trick with three of them is I just get behind the side. It's like a default mode. If you hate the manager try to ignore him as much as humanly possible and put all your support into the side. It's much easier said then done but it can help.

ah yes, that mantlepiece filling glorious early 80's period where we won zip until that 84 cup final, and were actually a horrific team until then.
