How can Moyes improve this squad ?

Personally I believe this current squad is laden with talent that could be good enough to get the job done and play consistently enough to challenge the top 4 for CL spots and Cup finals. My only reservation is how this squad is currently being utilized to the best of their abilities as a team on the field of play. I think this is where as a manager David Moyes NEEDS to start experimenting more with what he's got at his disposal and not be so negative and reserved away from home or when we go a goal up at home.

The days of 1 up front should now be a thing of the past. It's been tried and tested David and it hasn't worked out.. Lets go all in and grab the bull by the horns from next season onwards...

I want to see 4-4-2's and potentially 4-3-3's week in week out please....

Through Moyes own choosing we only have Gueye as a wide midfielder....so theres a few signings to be made for those formations :)

If i were Moyes, id be making Pienaar a priority. I'd also sign Straq aswell as he has such a good work rate. Aswell as them, we need a new Right back and right midfield. As we have alot of right backs, sign a midfielder for now.

If he really wants to improve though, we need to experiment formation. Heitinga, Jagielka and Distin at the back, with Baines and Coleman wing backs, make it happen Moyes. Atleast just once.

We basically have this core of players who we need to hold on to;

Jelavic
Fellaini
Baines
Heitinga

Then we have the following players around the 1st team we need to keep and hope they come good;

Gibson
Rodwell
Barkley
Vellios
Duffy
Gueye

As far as I'm concerned the rest can be shifted, but we have Moyes favourites such as Cahill / Howard / Neville / Osman / Hibbert who will all probably stay on until they retire + who are all probably on salaries which outweigh their abilities. Distin is an old codger but good for another year :)

Jags / Yobo / Anichebe are the only 3 players I think Moyes would consider selling....but even then Moyes finds it hard to sell players, he's not really a wheeler dealer unless someone wants to leave....

I would put gibson in the top list there mate. he has been very good for us since his arrival, and his partnership with fellaini is blooming.

Patience is seriously wearing thin with Rodwell. I for one am starting to think that we should've off loaded him at the back end of last season when there was genuine interest and plenty of dosh being touted for his services. We've had a very poor return for his salary this season!

Sort out at least one wing position. Replace Cahill as the starter with Osman. Pray that our best players aren't tapped up in the offseason.

Just a shame Moyes won't do any of the things suggested in this thread.

Well he might bring a few older players to improve it in the last year of his reign in one depserate attempt to finally get a trophy on his cv.

But for the years after that? Nah, we'll, be stuck with the central defenders and slow midfielders.

The only player I would have us keep hold of no matter what is Barkley. The few first games this season that he played he was more creative and attack minded then the rest of the squad has been for the rest of the season.

Fellaini, Baines, Jelavic, Rodwell, Heitinga and Gibson could be the spine of our team for many years, but if a good offer comes in I would sell.

easier said with hindsight but any offer above 18 mill id go for even though a couple of years ago we would have settled for nowehere near that low, just can't see how he can be the core of our team with the age of felli and gibson, aswell as the potential of this junior lad

I dont think there is any chance we will even look at doing anything at RB this summer. We will have next season hibbert Nev and coleman, the latter not even had a run there yet. Any money we have will go on wingers and a back up striker.

I would hope were aiming for this next season...

Howard
Coleman jags heitinga baines
Donovan Fellani gibson pienaar
Barkley
Jelavic

Would be left with a strong group of squad players ie distin nev rodwell guaye ossie vic cahill

Add a couple more squad players on free/loan deals... Rodellaga, pranjic

And watch us go!!

THIS!!!

And that is the kind of expectation and pressure which could well turn Barkley into the next Rodwell.

Well it is better then taking him completely out of the team because of one mistake. Like Rooney if he is good enough then he is old enough to handle the pressure

To be honest we could cash in on Fellaini now and get 2 or 3 decent players with the money we make off him.
