Unfortunately I fear that this thread is being derailed, I've just been called an 'orange ****' for no apparent reason. I'm insulted that you would think I subscribe to religion.

It's not an us vs them issue btw. You can be catholic and still consider this abhorrent, in the same way that you can subscribe to a religion and be okay with gays, women and birth control.
lol

It was my attempt at a joke mate. Dont take it to heart. I apologise if you were offended.

Unfortunatly id expect this is just scratching the surface, i wholly expect more sites around the country to be found.

Like i say utter disgrace, wars have been started over lesser losses of life.

Serious question: is there a statute of limitations on this? I mean, how recent in the past does something have to be for it to get the tabloid hand wringing, hypocritical sensationalist treatment? You wouldn't get it if there was unmarked graves over a hundred years old, for example, would you? Is it half a century then? That becomes 'recent enough' for it to be a scandal?

Are we talking about institutions like in the film "The Magdalene Sisters" or Victorian workhouses? I'm a little confused. Obviously there's a huge difference as the perpetrators could still be alive.

The plot in question and i use that term loosely was in use until 64 so in terms of an individual statute of limitations there is every chance individuals whom may be involved are still alive, regardless institutionly, many agencies were aware up to the present day and complicit within the lack of humanity and dignity of those children - whether they be religous, enforcement or political - they are all a thundering disgrace. That's before looking at the ethics of what went on at that home which i believe was forced adoption and enforced labour. This is an issue of humanity for me, so regardless of the social compisition of institutions involved and there are many, heads should roll.

In basic terms 800 dead children were laid to rest in a septic tank - in any society in the world and whatever social mitigation thats unacceptable and beyond question.

Sadly i said i think this is the tip of the iceberg. The last of these "type" of homes closed in 1994.

Mate I'm not going to get into the semantics of this with you, it's to poignant and to be honest debating the wheatears of that issue lacks sensibility!

Apparently there is one at the site, the dispute centers on the reporting that the remains we're found in the, as the primary location, the site to my understanding is broader!

The best info at moment is a denial that the septic tank is the primary location - but the site is wider - by the gardai, whom may be implicated. A denial by Catherine Coless that she disclosed to the media that all the remains where found in a septic tank!

Like I say I think we should both leave it there, it's not an appropriate debate!

I'm not failing to acknowledge that they were mistreated. My issue is the reporting of this, which is shoddy to say the least. It's a disgrace that people who were laid to rest in pauper's graves have to suffer further by having their memory mistreated with the suggestion that their remains have been shoved down a septic tank.

Of course, the 'journalists' do this because they know there's a demand for it. As we've witnessed.
