Do you bother with it?

Renewal just come through and has gone up - I needed it for mortgage but now thinking just sod it.

So, people of GOT - poll to decide.

renew

Ask what the threshold is for when you need to prove you own an item. IE Insuring Engagement Rings etc. Otherwise you can be left in the dark when you go to claim and you haven't declared overly expensive items.

I will be genuinely surprised if anyone doesn't take out home insurance. It's not exactly expensive, and your home and its contents would be eye-waveringly expensive to replace, no?

I've spent years nearly not bothering with contents insurance, reckoning that a) they're insurance and they'll do everything they can to weasel out of any liability anyway, b) if stuff is nicked then odds on I can buy it back for less than the excess / increased premium for the next decade.

Then this month I had a small fire in the utility room. It burned for around 5 minutes before I got it out. It was a lithium jump start battery being charged.

£1k on new washing machine & tumble dryer.
Rest of the contents smoke damaged (mainly trivial items) adds up to £2k +
Then there's the cleaning company and then the decorating company who are coming in.

To be fair to the company they've come up trumps so far - so yeah - worth the approx £140 a year I currently pay for buildings and contents.

I never do accidental damage cover though.

Another rip off in the world of living
I got reminder in from tsb £400
Shopped around £170 from lloyds
Which are probably the same organisation
Legal extortion in my mind

We got a renewal from esure, put it in a comparison site and they beat their own renewal price by 40%!

It's £133+ for just buildings cover...

How much do you all pay/who with/what do you get?

Im currently paying £18 for 1 thing and £7.29, I presume the cheaper amount is contents?

I can only assume I have some cheap arse level of cover.

Mine is through Halifax atm, which is the missus bank, they had an offer that if you go with them they give you £50 notes back as well.

NEVER, EVER renew anything EVER, unless it stays the same price, they are robbing bs, every single 1 of them, I change all my insurance providers almost every renewal date, as I say, unless they havent increased the premium.

The key here is of course shop around.
