Who would you go for in your best modern day home grown XI? Maybe something like this?

Subs: Hibbert, Cadamarteri, Ball, Baxter, Jeffers.

I really struggled for a goalkeeper. I wonder why we don't bring our own 'keepers through.

I suppose you could include the likes of Stubbs, Jagielka and Baines who left the club before they made the first team only to return.

Surely if you're counting Coleman as homegrown you could count Big Nev? Both were bought for peanuts from other clubs.

Depends what you mean by "modern". If it's the last twenty or thirty years, there's nothing. If you mean since WW2, suggest Ted Sagar. Joined as an apprentice & made 499 appearances. Retired in '52.

I'm not old enough to remember the likes of Ted Sagar, which is why I've kept it 80's to the present day.

Seamus is an academy product, as he spent over a year in the reserves. He wasn't bought as the finished article. I'll admit that he isn't strictly homegrown. Having checked my facts on Nev, he did go out on loan to Port Vale for 9 games before making his debut. He'd had a couple of clubs before we signed him, so I don't think we can class him as homegrown.
