Would teammates really care though, always though they were more bothered if they were any good than whether they are gay or not

You would hope, although Robbie Fowler's homophobic gesture and verbal abuse towards England team-mate Graham Le Saux didn't receive anything like the same punishment as Suarez/ Evra
 
Its more widely accepted now and to each their own i guess......... However on the flip side and having said that its more widely accepted in society now, it is strange how this STILL makes headline news. Is it just because his profession is playing professional football (sports) ? It shouldn't matter

It's because barely any professional footballers have come out, ever.
 


I know it shouldn't be news, but I think with every pro that comes out and says this, the climate becomes a little more friendly for existing gay players to come out.

I wonder if any of our players who played with him will come out in support, Everton did start the "Right Behind Gay Footballers" campaign
 
Top respect for the lid coming out. I wish it wasn't a big deal, like, but at this point it still is. Hopefully the atmosphere will continue to become increasingly open and progressive in footy and sports in general.
