Unreal assessments. In the last seven seasons he's played in three of the top four European leagues; he's 30 years old; and ripped his own three year contract up at Wolfsburg because of an injury. If he proves his fitness in training I think he and his agent will be looking for more than an eight month contract.

As I say, he seems limited to me and with not much if any resale value. We'd be better ploughing any contract money into a younger player who has a bit of pedigree in the Championship or somewhere.

He can look for what he wants, it's what we want to offer that matters & there's no way he'd get a long term deal from us given the circumstances.

Unless the championship player you're referring to is on a free, I don't see the point you're making.

Ive jumped from the first page of this thread to here to make a reply.

I simply cannot understand the negativity of the majority towards our captain. He very rarely gives the ball away and is probably the most effective defensive midfielder in the league at the moment. He continually breaks things down early before the defence are put under pressure, and moves the ball on the way he is facing without over complicating things, and allows the rest of the midfield/full backs to get on and do what they are good at knowing he is there for protection should it break down.

Basically what Moyes tells him to do - HIS JOB FOR THE TEAM!

On saturday I couldnt believe how impatient the fans were in the first half to get the ball forward quickly when we were keeping, people raved last season about Swansea keeping the ball......we do it better than they did, and we have the consistent end product. The first goal must of been 25 - 30 passes from back to front.

We dont need Hitzlsperger in my opinion, and I know it wont happen but id be happy if the 11 that started on Saturday, started every game until the end of the season!

Hitzlesperger is attempting to rebuild his career.If he stays injury free then he could have another three or four years playing at the peak of his abilities .
IIf he gets a contract at Everton it will be similar to the James McFadden situation last season.The contract given by Everton to McFadden(for modest wages I presume) allowed McFadden to show other clubs that he was over his injury and able to stay fit and available to play)
A contract for Hitzlesperger until the end of the season will allow the same thing to happen,it will allow him to prove his fitness and impress David Moyes into giving him a longer contract or at least prove to other clubs he can stay fit.
Everton are not in a position to offer long term contracts to players who spend all their time injured.
We should by now have learned our lesson from Williamson,Bilic,AVDM.

You'll get slaughtered on here, but you make some valid points, although they must be tempered with the fact that Neville is coming to the end of his career and is less mobile than he was. It must be remembered that Moyes always likes one of his midfielders to sit, break up play, and make the easy pass. This position is what became known as our old friend 'The Carsley Position'..so called because Carsley played it so well, and to the great benefit of the team. Neville on his game is good within the limits of the 'Carsley Position'..and this will tick one of Moyes favourite boxes. Our current success, as an attacking force..and attacking does not come naturally to Moyes who is essentislly dour and ultra defensive(in the past he has not been able to consistently get the best out of good strikers, hopefully Jelavic will continue to do well) is not despite Neville, but at least in part because playing Neville in that position gives Moyes the confidence to allow his team some positivety going forward. In other words, having someone do what Neville does in the middle of the park, is a key element of Moyes thinking. This should not be translated as 'Moyes picks Neville regardless', but simply that Moyes is comfortable with Neville in that position. I also feel that Hibbert when fit is our best bet at full back in most games. I agree that part of a full backs game these days is to get forward, but the most important part is to defend the flank.At present Coleman is not good enough defensively to be a regular choice, and the importance of every Prem game cannot be under estimated. The Capital One Cup would have been an ideal chance to give Coleman a chance at full back, and I think Moyes is gutted that we are out of it because it would have given fringe players more game time.

But as he's proven this season, when we need a little bit more from him (which is no more than you'd expect out of a dm) he struggles. He's still a decent footballer but really should have been used as a last resort this season and not played in every game.

I think Moyes recognises this, Nzonzi, Odjidja-Ofoe and Hitzlsperger all centre mids, Neville's bow out season i think.
