Lukaku is without question the best Striker we have had in the Premiership era and before you start, thats the era we CURRENTLY play in.

Can't disagree with this but what a player Saha could have been if he'd stayed injury free. Was it Fulham he first played for over here? I remember watching him as a young player and thinking he had everything to be a top striker. Shame we waited ten years to sign him.

I might be swearing in church now, but I bet Rom would score more than Dixien in any league during any timeperiod. He’s a legit legend, but I dont think 1930s level football is even comperable to todays in quality, and Rom is a beast.

Funny you should say that because I read an article some years ago that compared him to modern day Strikers: Shearer, Fowler, Cole, Wright, etc.

The jist of it was its impossible to compare goals then and goals now because the game was so different. So what they did was compare not just how many goals he scored, but how many goals he scored as a percentage of goals scored in same the time period, comparing him to other players and teams in the era.

Turns out that not only was Dixie scoring his goals the amazing feat it was then, but by modern comparisons it was even better. And all done with a ball that most modern players probably couldn't even lift off the floor. Some of ours can't get a corner past the 1st man. And Rom was as guilty as any for the odd powder puff shot when through on goal.

So yeah, that theory, while interesting, was debunked in the only scientific way possible as well.

Dixie was a genuine, bonefide legend and a 1 off in anyone's book.

I doubt most forwards today would last long against defenders from the 80's/90's let alone what might have been permissible as a "fair tackle" back in the 30's
