Leave it in a bowl of sawdust overnight mate, the sawdust neutralises the phones electromagnetic memory and by the morning should be restored to factory state.

That's because you didn't use the sawdust mate, the sawdust keeps the signal away and thus reverting it to a locked state.
Nah, no way, he will be back though, I reckon in two weeks.
Just leave it for eight hours or more and best of luck. Some people raise an eyebrow but if defo works.
