Heitinga

I would've said Fellaini but he's out for the season.

Heitinga, minus the 1st couple of games where he was settling, has been consistantly solid all season, never had a poor game, played in a number of positions, and has been a rock at the back when others (Distin, Yobo, Neil buggering off) have all had shockers.

Has a leader sense about him, not scared of a tackle, doesnt moan, can be a rat at times (which is a good thing) and is an all round top international player IMO.

Quality signing for 6mill.

Totally agree. He's what I'd term "a real footballer".

heitinga in midfield released arteta to play further forward. Makes sense- we dont want mikel doing the donkey work. Where this leaves Leon i dont know, but playing him as a man marker against sporting was sheer madness. Also moyes doesnt seem to trust rodwell to play defensive mid anymore after that terrible pass to distin. Long term however you have to say fellaini will be our defensive mid so anyone else playing there is just temporary.

He's my player of the year as well.

How we got him from Atletico for 5M is beyond me. Moyes must have had pictures of someone in their front office.

Tbh, I wasn't sure of him when he first signed. Couldn't see a first team place for him when he signed (providing everyone was fit and healthy). He surprised me big time though. The English League seems custom made for him. Why did I ever doubt the Moyesiah?:)

Player of the year for me, would be Fellaini though, with Pienaar pushing him to the finish line.

i too was unsure about heitinga at first.

within 3/4 games i absolutly loved the fella.

great strength , great ability , great great player.

his 'no messing' attitude puts him in the same league as big dunc and peter reid imo.

im really excited about him and jags as a defencive pairing.i see cups coming pretty soon with those 2 in our ranks.

what a player is he should be the captin next season:)

You know Im starting to think the same.

Just been reading his twitter- he says all the right things!

John Heitinga Tomorrow i'm back in training! Can't wait to start and see my ‪#Everton‬ mates again! ‪#proudtobeblue

On my way to ‪#finchfarm‬. Great to be back at ‪#Everton‬. ‪#coyb

Nice shout. He's got leadership qualities, maybe it will make him more reliable being instilled as skipper, he's prone to the odd moment of madness or going AWOL, it could benefit both parties.

Awesome to know he's feeling the love at Everton at the moment by the sounds of it, last year (or the year before?) he was saying a few strange things to the media.

I never liked him and then he totally changed my opinion of him. If he's committed and passionate I assume he'll sign a new deal because if he doesn't we need to look at moving him out otherwise we find ourselves in another pienaar situation. We have to learn and run ourselves properly

I thought that the club was still actively looking to sell him (so says someone on here but I cant remember who) if that is the case I don't think that he'll be the next captain, unfortunately
