I like it. Why be like them across the park and whine and cry that you should be playing European football, like some God given right year in year out, or claim that you potentially should be challenging for Premiership glory. When the reality is, you won't be doing either . In these days of multi-Billion pound investments and average players believing they are rock stars with the potential to be held aloft along side the 1982 Brazil team. A little reality check is needed now and then and Heitinga, much like ourselves, has served it up. We know we have a weak, disjointed squad that has had many holes punched in it and not refilled. The players, more than anyone know this. So why set an impossible bar for both yourselves and your fans - it would only lead to huge disappointment and lots of negativity. Set your expectations low and if / when you finish higher than you / fans/ pundits expected..well that would only serve to raise both your game and expectations for next season, surely ?
Option A) Be a potentially over-achieving, arrogant optimist and be forever letting yourself and your fans down on a regular basis..
or
Be a realist, set your bar to a level you know is perfectly achievable with the resources at your disposal and if you happen to finish above that , bask in the glory that you did not think was attainable earlier in the season ?
We are Everton, we know our limitations, unlike "some we know", who believe their name should be gilded onto silver wear, even before the season begins and then have to suffer the indignation and embarrassment of failure- year in year out
Dushku Out.
