Health and Safety

Havent read the other thread to be honest, but can certainly see the benefits of h&s. can also see where it becomes stupid though.

Thats it really mate. Would be a bit worried if an oil rig had no H&S tbh, but it has spawned an industry of well meaning folk ticking boxes in offices and the like.

I have been responsible for H&S for many years, and one issue that raises itself is people in higher positions not taking responsibility. If certain practices require equipment/measures, whatever, and they always harp on about budgets, when corporate responsibility, I.e. their liability, us highlighted, they tend to cack themselves and want very stringent measures in place.
The flip is having to cover your own *rse because managers won't back you.
Anyone thinks H&S is a nonsense only has to witness a bad, avoidable accident and then see how much money it costs in compensation.

I run manufacturing companies in countries with no regard for health and safety, it scares the life out of me what people will do with good intent, yet ignorant of the dangers they place themselves in.

We purchased a load of safety guards for machines in a saw mill, firstly no-one would fit the guards and then secondly after they were fitted they would be removed as "it slowed production down"...

This the reality mate

We should be proud of the Health and Safety standards that we what we have achieved in this Country
