Steven Gerrard has declared that
Liverpool “will get the
championship again” - oi, stop
laughing Man United fans! Despite
it being 21 years since the Reds last
finished top of the pile (when
Gerrard was yet to turn 10 years
old), the Liverpool skipper is
confident Kenny Dalglish can bring
the title back to Anfield again.
“What I can say is Liverpool will be
back among the trophies sooner
rather than later because we are
moving in the right direction,” said
Gerrard. “We have got fantastic
players, the structure of the club is
healthy from top to bottom and
that means the team won't be too
far away from winning. It's
difficult to say when because that
adds pressure to the team, but we
will get the championship again.”
Haven't we heard this before? And
not just from talkSPORT's very own
Micky Quinn! Yes, we're pretty
sure Steven Gerrard has been
saying Liverpool will win the
Premier League for a while…
AUGUST 2006
What Gerrard said: “We ended last
season with 11 wins on the trot, eight
in the league and that is title-winning
form. I must admit I'm excited about
what next season could bring for us
because I know we have a team of
very good players here who can
challenge for the Premiership.”
What happened: Liverpool finished
third, 21 points behind champions
Manchester United
OCTOBER 2007
What Gerrard said: “Seventeen
years? That’s far too long and we feel
we have all the tools now to pull it off.
We’ve got the manager, the team, the
new owners putting money in and a
stadium to come. The manager has
strengthened in the right places,
there’s no doubt about that.”
What happened: Liverpool finished
fourth, 11 points behind champions
Manchester United
MAY 2008
What Gerrard said: “I can see that
the team is getting stronger and
stronger and I can see that we are
going forward. I feel that we are
getting closer and I really believe
that.”
What happened: Liverpool finished
second, four points behind
champions Manchester United
MAY 2009
What Gerrard said: “This time I’m
going to use the experience to drive
me on and try to win the title over the
next few years. We certainly have the
ability, as we’ve shown this year… I
think next year could be our year –
I’m really confident about that.”
“I honestly believe in my heart of
hearts that this team will win the
Premier League… I believe we're too
good not to win it.”
AUGUST 2009
“You have to go into every new
season prepared to do all you can to
make it happen and I genuinely
believe we can do it. This city would
absolutely erupt if we did.”
What happened: Liverpool finished
seventh, 23 points behind champions
Chelsea

League title with Liverpool? Have your

He's a drone. Same monotonous delivery of the same tired cliches after every single game. It doesn't surprise me at all he's given the same call to arms year in, year out. He's a thick cnut.

But them lot buy it.

Couldve booted the dog all over the kitchen after listening to talk****e this morning with people calling to say the RS will challenge from the title. Not only that but actually try and back it up with facts while totally forgetting other teams in the top 5.

They all live in their self obsessed bubble

The picture in the article made me laugh.

There's at least 2 people putting fingers up to him and various others swearing in his direction.

Good stuff.

They're some way off being ready to challenge for the league. Their transfer policy has me scratching my head. Lucas and Mereiles were two of their best players last season, so why replace them with Henderson and Adam. Who will be the anchor out of those two to allow the other to get forward with Gerrard? Why are they looking at a midfield three/five when they're ideally set up for a front two? The systems don't mix. Isn't Conor Wickham another big, powerful forward like Carroll? If they had signed him, would they have played both of them. Not really the Liverpool way, is it? I know Forlan is 32 but his international partnership with Suarez is incredibly potent. With Athletico showing him the door, why wouldn't they pick him up to add strength in depth, variety and guile to their attack? Dann is young, English and red through and through. Why would they let Stoke get the jump on them for that deal? Altogether, it seems like it will take atleast another season for any shape or cohesion to emerge.
