Have we over hyped our own squad?

First time starting my own thread so bare with me.
Was in work the other day speaking to a fellow blue after we lost badly to Atalanta and we got onto the subject of our squad. On the face of it this summer we bought what looked like, some good players. But when you break it down and analyse it. It doesn't bode well for us. Also going on the last 3 windows.

Pickford: Relegated with Sunderland
Martina: Couldn't get in a poor Southampton side.
Williams: Swansea are perennial bottom 6 contenders.
Schneiderlin: Good 6 months at Southampton, bottled it at United.
Gana: Relegated with Villa.
Bolasie: Palace are the same as Swansea.
Klassen: Came from a very limited league.
Sigurdson: Swansea again.
Sandro: Scored goals for a poor lower mid table Spanish side.

When you look at the squad this way it's hardly surprising we've struggled.

They’ll seem a lot better when the learn to defend and get a bit of confidence.

We overhype our signings every summer, this one was no different.

But our players aren't bad enough for relegation. We need stability, organisation and belief again. Sam got this.

At the end of the day, our choice of strikers is DCL who is more promise than anything, Niasse who is just a trier and Sandro who is having a mare as he has joined a struggling side.

Even when Sunderland were struggling in the league they had Defoe, who was always good for a goal.

To be honest I thought we'd made some decent signings and I still think with some actual tactics and a proper manager we'll see some of them flourish.

Unfortunately we also signed Martina and didn't sign adequate cover for LB, CB and a couple of Strikers.

I'm not sure they were overhyped, I just think they were solid signings with lots of potential, sadly it's difficult to fulfil that potential when you've been dropped into the situation that we currently find ourselves in.

Always looked average after spending £200mill and still missing key signings, name signings to offer xfactor.

I think if you compared the current bottom 5 squads with ours, youd be hard pressed to find that we've got better players man for man.

We have a better squad than Palace, Swansea, West Ham and Bournemouth.

We shouldn't go down and we won't under a proper manager who has been there and done it in this league.

Sold genuine quality and replaced it with trash. We all had our gripes about Stones Barkley Deulofeu and Lukaku but their quality was never in question (even if their application was). We replaced them with less talented players think their application might be better. If anything it’s worse. Klaasen Gueye and Schneiderlin make Barkley McCarthy and Barry look like the holy trinity. Going from Lukaku to DCL was criminal. Marginalising Pennington Browning Galloway Garbutt and Dowell was stupid knowing that Mori was injured and there was no cover for Baines.
