Have we lost our passion?

Yeah I agree with that.

Just to be clear, i'm not saying that matchgoing fans are more passionate, simply that going to the game week in week out suggests that you must be reasonably passionate about the club, otherwise you have a weird way of wanting to pass time and spend money.

I think the last couple of years have been a bit of an eye opener for a lot of fans. For all the talk about Moyes being negative etc, I think fans genuinely felt like every game mattered during most of his seasons in charge. We were usually challenging for at least Europe, occasionally the CL, so we wanted the team to fight for everything. The same happened in Martinez's first season but the last 2 were so utterly average that it stopped really mattering whether we got a last minute equaliser or not. There were loads of posts on here last year about how it didn't really matter if we finished 7th or 13th, they were effectively the same thing.

After a lot of excitement in the early summer, I think the reality looks like being another underwhelming season, and it's hard to get really excited by individual games against fellow mid table sides when you know it isn't going to make a huge difference to the overall success/failure of the season.

I think we traded results (moyes) for style (Martinez). Results were great but we would often play negative away football at the big boys, even though it was our best chance to grind results, sometimes we got tonked and it was embarrassing and painful in equal measure.
Under bobby we would get beat but mainly because we tried going toe to toe with the big boys a lot of the time.

Whether you prefer style over substance or vice versa, the players have to show passion, regardless of their talent. Some of our recent passion has come from Cahill, Denis the menace and big dunc. That is one reason why although Lukaku scores goals, I will never look at him the same as Cahill or Ferguson, at the end of the day if Romelu wants to sulk about its fine for him, he will still get a decent move to another team.

The one game that stood out for me was City at home a few years back. The week before we'd had that horrific defeat to Wigan in the cup yet the following week we celebrated Jelavic's goal like it was a cup winner. So if the passion goes with Everton, it doesn't go far.

So have we all decided that it's just @Ashtonian who has lost his passion for Everton and that he should probably be banned until he gets it back yeah?

Ashley Williams there basically telling @Ashtonian to pipe down.

you finished yet? ;)

also player just signed for club giving official club interview and praises the fans shocker. And i have not critisised the fans, we all care, the away support best in the country and we all care about our club either way even if we aren't signing.

Its difficult to explain, yes we havent been very good for years, but there was always a feeling we could get back to the top, nowdays chances are slim with the big clubs vastly outspending and taking any new talent available, the crowds have changed from mainly working class lads ketting off steam to more theatre like audience who fall for the "best league " tag and want to be entertained and not wanting the view blocked by some rowdy elements, most players just turn up to get paid even local lads dont seem to have the passion of players from years ago, maybe because they have become to distant from the fans,on its day Goodison can be as intimidating as any stadium but it needs something to spark that fire

I don't think that's a concern anymore, now that we are making 60 million pound bids for some of the biggest stars in Europe.

great post Khal.

not winding up or looking to start an argument here, but @ianefc and @mikeh72 you should see here that this is a good fan who just happens to disagree with you guys on the current and last boss. all just opinion and i dont think there is an agenda

he is completely wrong about John Stones mind you! :p

Cannot bloody wait for Saturday and I wouldnt let other peoples passion or lack of influence mine. My first game in 3 years and the whole day is just always special. At the airport now waiting to fly to LPL now. got work stuff in Chester and family stuff in Birmingham before the weekend but its all about Saturday.
No doubt. I've had many a conversation with him over the years. He's an excellent poster and last December he absolutely schooled me (Emojis n all) in a post about how crap things were in the early 80's when I was bleating about Martinez.

I've never questioned his or anyone's passion, I've also said that any match going fan get more of my respect (not a popular view, but I said it even when I didn't go)

He may very well be right about Koeman, he's gone early on it IMO, but like I've said before I don't support the managers or players I support the club and our fan base. I couldn't give a toss who manages us as long as he gets results or initially has me confident he'll get results.

All *posters on here are top people, disagreements, arguments, wumming, trolling and Daveking.

* = expect zatara, won't budge on him. He's a plank.

Oh BTW I'm meeting up with one or two posters on Saturday if you fancy a pre game pint.
