Has Fellaini really got a £22m buyout clause in his contract ?

Was just gonna say, optimistically, that even if there is such a clause and even if said clause is triggered, there's no guarantee that he'll accept the offer that is on the table

In my opinion Fellaini is nowhere near Modric as a player and that is why one plays for Real Madrid and one plays for us. Modric had everything as a central midfielder, pace, vision, craft, creativity and guile. Fellaini has none of those attributes. I hope for his sake he doesn't go to a mega club because I think he will only be found out. It took us ages....ages to get him to any sort of decent level for us. He's had a longer apprenticeship than any player I know. World class players don't need that. Moyes has built a team around getting the best out of his 15 million pound man. We play the formaiton we do so that Fellaini can play in the hole where his lack of pace and positional sense isn't found out. He can then use his touch and hold up play to bring better players into the game and hopefully get on the end of something they create. Fellaini can bully lesser midfielders in the prem (although obviously not against Leeds) if he's playing deep lying mid but against any team with any quality he's chasing shadows (as horribly showed in the cup semi when Charlie Adam and Lucas gave our midfield the run around, 6 months later and Osman, a proper centre mid, despite being partnered by Neville is dominating Gerrard and Allen at Goodison). I just can't see a top side building their team around him like Moyes has, I think people think he could just slot in at holding mid for any of the world's top sides but when you watch him play there he is positionally all over the shop. I hope one of the top sides are stupid enough to go for him in that position (although questions must be asked as to why they haven't already considering Lescott, Arteta, and Pienaar have all been sold whilst he's been here) because we'd then have a ridiculously overinflated 30 odd million to spend on some real world class players. Modric would be a start.

Real, even in their current state, want rid.
My point was that setting transfer fee's on a forum is ludicrous, as is people intimating they know the inner details of a professional footballers contract. A footballer is only worth what another club will pay for him.

Was Torres worth £50M? No. Did Chelsea pay £50M for him? Yes.
Was Carroll worth £35M? No. Did teh ****e pay £35M for him? Yes.
Henderson, Downing, Modric, Fletcher ad finitum.....all worth what somebody will pay for them.

Lcab says hes got clauses that the player can trigger. Player doesn't want to trigger them.

Its probably higher than 22mill

That sounds feasible tbh, the player can force a move for that price if he wants but otherwise clubs have to offer what we find acceptable. Seems like a good way of getting a mutually agreed transfer.

Looks like I might be wrong here then. If LCAB and McNulty and the Times all think it, there might be something in it.

@toffee_finbar @TheHolyTrinity8 Theres a Clause .Its OPTIONAL on his part . Same as CL Qualif WAS HIS CLAUSE , yet on Fri he says hes willin to stay either way , THUS circumventing HIS OWN Clause . Not Cut & Dried . Also NOT £22M

Just want to point out that the general discrepancy of 25/26m or 22m is about comparable with whether it's quoted in Euros or Sterling. I personally do believe there's a break clause figure but that was surely the compromise for the player signing a new contract. You've only to look at the Walcott situation to see how it could be worse.

At the end of the day, ALL of our players have a 'magic transfer fee figure' that can trigger their departures.

The only aspect of this being news is that we can't set up a bidding war for Fellaini.

Also - HE DOESN'T HAVE TO GO IF HE DOESN'T WANT TO!

A lot of talk he's got a clause which is worrying . I know an enquiry was made by a club and they were totally unaware of any clause which seems odd.

If there is a clause I can only assume its tied to other factors which need activating (be the player of time or whatever ) because a number of people seem puzzled as to why this clause has not been an issue as enquiries (especially recently ) have been made.

I find this tweet interesting.

@LdnBlue2012 Could have walked away for a lot less had he not signed the contract. So not bad management.

Clearly his new contract was a better "get out clause" than his last deal. So although people are fuming, at least we're not losing more money. I also would be more devastated about Baines, Jagielka or Pienaar leaving the club at the moment.

Sheeds, does the fact that the clause has been kept quiet by our club (as in our interests) and other clubs being previously oblivious to it, mean that in all likelihood only Fellaini's agent/represenatives could have put it out there in the public, ahead of a summer transfer?

Worrying, if true, becausce I wouldn't expect him to stick around regardless of recent comments expressing loyalty.

felli is the best young midfielder in the prem ,maybe europe ...and bill lets him have a clause to get out for peanuts.

Apologies if I'm repeating what's been said - but WTF is this meaningless garbage?

If a club offers 22m for Fellaini and he wants to go, he's gone. No need for any 'release clause' bollox.

It would be v concerning if there was a Demba Ba style clause at 10m or something, way less than his true value, and he wanted to get off. But a release clause of 22m? Don't see this as meaning anything.

Couple of problems here.

1. Articles mention its a £22m clause for CL Clubs but mention Chelsea, who arent in it.
2. It really wouldnt be £7m more than what we paid for him.
3. He's been talking about wanting to get EFC into the CL then figure out his future so i cant see him leaving until at least the summer.

1. I would love you to argue with ANYBODY that Chelsea arent a CL Club, when was the last time they didnt qualify? And im fairly sure they are the current champions of Europe.
2. Its not, its 24m, 15% to Liege, 5.4m Profit.
3. He will not leave this Window.
