Whilst I am never happy about losing to Liverpool, I am glad we out of the cup!

It has been a disastrous season so far and now we have no other distractions there is, to my mind, no excuse not to finish in a top half position.

I appreciate my thoughts will not be shared by all so comments please.
So what if we finish 8th instead of 11th. Big deal.

We were having a much worse season than this in 1995 and we managed to win the thing.
I certainly enjoyed myself that day.
We beat the best team of the decade that day with some pretty ordinary players.

We had beaten utd leading up to that cup final in the league, there was not such a huge gulf in class between teams back then. (granted if Cantona and giggs had been available/100% fit then it may have been a bit different) Almost on any given day you could have a right go at any team and get a result. Compare that to now and how many times we come up short against these teams. We can only get away with backs to the wall defending for so long.

I enjoyed 95 as much as the next man and generally I would hope to stay in any competition for as long as possible (last season for instance) but this team winning a trophy?...No way, no how. Just kidding yourself if you think otherwise. Hopefully next season we have a team with the necessary backbone as well as a working attack to make me think if we get the rub of the green and a good draw we can win something.

Gutted we went out: a couple of Wembley trips and an FA Cup would have been a nice way for Sam to begin his reign.

Not arsed about league position now that CL is out of reach

I'm utterly bemused by threads like these, or others who think finishing eighth and not in the Euro League places is a good idea as "we won't be fatigued by European commitments next year".

FFS. What's the point in supporting Everton if you want to avoid competitions where we have a chance of winning a cup? I couldn't care less if we have to play some jarg Moldovan pub side in the first week of August next year, if it means we're in a competition with a chance of glory at the end of it, I'm all for it.

Rant over. And to answer the question, no, we should ALWAYS be fighting for silverware.

The only reason the FA cup is interesting is the chance for a europa league spot for the winner. FA/League cup silverware is pretty meaningless in my book these days. Id take a CL spot over FA cup anyday!
