Aye, I vaguely remember my grandmother(when she was alive) having stories about him growing up, a very nice chap by all accounts. My mam was actually pretty devastated when his tenure as Ireland manager went up in smoke. Like you said, he never should have gotten the job, and it certainly wasn't the first time the FAI embarrassed themselves. Our media was atrocious at the time. He was terrible like, but he clearly wasn't going to last long and to see the hack wolves coming out at every opportunity was a crime against one of Ireland's great international servants.
