Yes. 100%.
I don't think equity exists with consistency yet. Perhaps in some places and some examples but not everywhere.
There's still a pervading discrimination, be it conscious or unconscious, within many work places as well as other avenues of society.

Good post.

I think women don't help themselves at times by being overly "militant" about things. For example, I read about someone who took nude pictures of herself and allowed them to be published to take consent back after being the victim of revenge porn. That's a fantastic idea and it shows she's a strong women who has taken ownership of her own sexuality.

But the feminists who rightly applaud that will then have a problem with Page 3 models, despite them doing exactly the same thing in essence - making a decision to control the publication of their own sexuality for their own reasons.

I'm a firm believe that being extremely anything is a bad idea, so I often see feminism as a self-defeating own goal - equality should be the aim, and that means women being allowed to do anything they want inside the boundaries of the law without prejudice, and men.

I disagree. Young women are even out earning men. And there is not one right that men have that women dont.

The gender pay gap was 19.7% in 2013, which means that the average woman will earn 19.7% less than the average man per hour.

Put into context, that's nearly 20p in every pound. So for every tenner a man earns, a woman on average will earn £8.

The gender pay gap is not for the same job. It's an average of all men and all women. And they found that men tend to work in more high paid jobs and work longer hours where as women tend to go into less paid jobs such as caring jobs as opposed to engineering.

Long story short the small pay gap is due to decisions men and women make, not sexism.

Look at the stats mate.
Pay disparity is a real thing. Women doing the same jobs for less money.
It isn't about rights. It's about equal opportunities, and the ability to go and take those opportunities without being frowned on by society.

Yeah I really don't like the militancy feminism has taken, all you see is the loony's which takes away from some of the things that genuinely need to be listened to.
I've seen it work the other way too with men being forced out of career paths like early childhood and teaching, as men are seen as untrustworthy around children.
But overall there's certainly discrimination in several shapes and forms which acts to prevent/deter women from taking opportunities, and as such you can't really say equity and equality exists.
Merit should be what we're discriminated against, not gender or race.

Even when adjusted for the same jobs with similar experience and abilities there are still pay differences mate.

Voting for someone based on their gender is literally sexism.

I agree with this.

And honestly, do you actually think women are disadvantaged in 2015?

Yes as it pertains to the US and it's a ridiculous question when considered world wide. I am in one of the "best" professions for equality in pay and women are still at least 5-10% behind men. That's not to say pay is the only measure of inequality.

On the other side of the spectrum, my problem with some feminists is they only want the good stuff. I think women should be required to register for the draft and the inherent preference for women in child custody is sexist against men. Many work places do not give paternity leave, reinforcing the idea that child care is "women's work" which in part leads to some pay disparity. I'm sure there are many other examples.

With equal opportunity comes equal responsibility and loss of some "privilege."

Worldwide of course. In non western countries feminism is definitely needed. Ironically western feminists wore "this is what a feminist looks like" T-shirts which were made by women earning pennies in India.

The so called pay gap is due to choices men and women make. Which profession are you in and how are they 5-10% behind if you don't mind me asking.
