He drifted off inside too much, he was hiding a bit imo. He's got no pace & always looks like he could trip over his own feet at any minute to me. As was said earlier, he could maybe do with a loan spell.

You cant blame him for drifting in a) We where trying to get the win, we needed as many inside as possible and b) Coming inside gets the best out of our best player

Oh and as for the argument that he should be played up top, Oviedo put in a beautiful ball for the back post yesterday but Jelavic came near and Gueye was about ten yards away and completely static.

I don't care how good your technique is, if you don't make a run to the back post there you're not a striker.

He's not been badly handed, he's not being played out of position, he just isn't good enough when up against anyone better than Leyton Orient or Phil Bardsley.

He was cutting inside when Baines had the ball & he should have been bombing down the outside of him to look to receive it, instead he wandered inside & didn't give Baines an option, which given that they were playing 3 at the back was infuriating, as there was space on the outside & he'd have pulled one of the 3 CB's out of position.

He hasn't played much and coming on in a derby was never going to be easy. He just seemed to want to stay out of the way of everyone. Had 1 nice flick on. I missed the opening lineups, was Victor hurt?

He's 22 and started 14 games for us and came on as a sub in another 21. Compare that to the chances Vellios, Barkley and Duffy have had.

He played at the olympics over the summer. Then started against orient (where he was excellent) and got ten minutes against swansea and another start vs Leeds. And since then he's played three games in the reserves.

I'm not accepting that he was rusty, yesterday. He had 45 minutes to get into the game and never did.

Thought he looked decent on the left to be honest. He's always gash on the right so I wasn't surprised he became anonymous after the switch.

Replacing Mirallas didn't help either, as Kev was the best man on the pitch in the first half.

I'm not convinced he's a winger but he's shown enough about him (vision, control, passing) for me to not dismiss him yet.

I reckon his position is off a main striker. Looks a decent passer and gets in decent positions at times. Can't see him doing it at PL level like.

i think he played in central mid for reserves before(sorry if mentioned before not read whole thread) so maybe that could be his position, im not gonna completely write him off just yet

Rewatched the game with my dad; we had differing opinions. He thought Gueye was OK, I thought he was rubbish. Analysing his performance closely I had to revise my opinion and say he was actually decent, Baines should have given him the ball a few times and he chose not to and we ended up losing it, they were 2v1 on Wisdom a few times and Baines didn't try a one-two.
The few times he had it weren't in great positions and he did the best he could.
Still, I thought Oviedo offered more when he came on. Oviedo/Gueye left hand side may be the future, unless our younger leftbacks (we have one or two, do we not?) come through. We'll have to see.

I think he's a decent player and has enough about him to make it with us since he has a great left foot, a good shot and a good cross but it's more of a question of whether he'll develop a good engine and consistency so that a game won't pass him by, without that I can only see him going the way of Bily unfortunately and I rated Bily.
