Articles like this crack. It's almost as if we needn't even play the games, no one really cause it is all set in stone. The top are the top four, period. After that it is all about sexy signings and how much money you spent. Never mind if there is no team chemistry or a cancer in the club house.

Her's my pre-season take on Everton from a purely analytical view.

Everton finished 5th is goals allowed with 36. Notice Arsenal had 35 and the top three 24, 27 & 27 respectively. behind us it jumps into the 40's and climbs from there. In our case it was down from 49 the previous season.

On the goals scored side of the equation we netted 52 (up from 34 the year before).

When you consider that we went 15-13-10 last season you realize that we had the third most draws in the league and it is precicely those matches that are our swing votes going forward. Turn a few more of them into wins and we're top 5 threatening for 4th. Swing the other way and a slide down is innevitable.

Personally, I think our improved defense will drive our GA down even further. And everone of those is capable of turning a draw into a win or a loss into a point. Conversely, and here is Everton's really tricky part, can we net the same or more goals this season?? If today Cahill and Vaughn was healthy and a striker had been signed then it would be an unnequivocal yes given our improved wings, midfield and even some width from those new defenders. enen with the injuries I am confident that we will get some players to help out, Pienaar and hopefully Vogel yet alone should be capable of improving our service from out wide. I'm hopefull that McFadden can deliver on his promise or that someone like Lukas can step up and contribute. In the end, if we can net another 52 or more than I don't care what people like this clown from the guardian says, we have a very real chance at 5th and could be in a position to challenge the top 4.

A million different view on a single subject, that's what football all about.
