Any fans on GOT ? Greatest ever period of time for Rally but also the saddest. At the time it got banned it was on verge of challenging F1 for most popular motorsport in the world, conspiracy theories galore at the time but looking back its pretty mad to think Group B was ever a thing given how ridiculously dangerous it was.

The on-board footage around 3:18 in the video is absolute madness, i cant even begin to imagine how grim it must have been for the drivers to drive flat out whilst surrounded by hoards of people seemingly on a death wish.

Group B is absolutely brilliant. It's a shame to see what's happened to rally in last few years, nowhere near the appeal it had even 10-15 years ago.

Video Unavailable.

Im imagining people driving round a dirt track quite quickly while other people trudging around the dirt track thinking its a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon?

...nah, not for me. Always think cars are for transport, saying that I’ll watch F1 with interest. I have honestly never lifted the bonnet on my car, indeed I wouldn’t know how to.

Weird, videos working fine for me.

try direct link, although it doesn't sound like you'll be particularly interested in it tbh :p

edit: cant even post the direct link without it embedding.

its like this but the cars are way faster and sketchier

Must be region locked. Im interested but it doesn’t really have the same appeal as F1. Who are the big names around nowadays?

Sebastian Ogier is the current don and has won the last 6 championships in a row, he's taken over from Sebastian Loeb who won 9 in a row before him. I don't really watch Rally much nowadays either and prefer F1 and other series but Group B was something else.

There's a good BBC documentary about the final days of Group B (death of Toivonen etc) but seems no ones uppped it to youtube

edit: Available here

the first few seconds should give you and idea of how ropey it was in terms of safety

Those spectators have a bad case of the Charles Bronson's. Total lack of imagination to what can and go wrong while on the edge. Just for kickers imagine getting a stone flicked up from the tyre and fired at you like a bullet. I have had that once just walking along a pavement and it wasn't a nice feeling.
