GOV.UK/HMRC refund email.

There was (and possibly still is) a Preston HMRC office. Been in it.
Ah ok. I just remember, after contacting HMRC Stockport to report the scam I was told something along those lines. It might have been that only Stockport dealt with it. Anyway, they never send you an email to notify you of over payment. If they do, I just send a daft reply..it never gets delivered.

Read something last week, that said for some reason I can't remember, the obviously fake ones actually draw in more people than the subtle ones. Strange but true.
I've lost count of the number of times my mum has rang me and said "I've had an email here off (insert blag company) what do you think it's about, what should I do"?
I go in to blind panic and say "please tell me you never replied or gave them anything"?
Some are really obviously blag but I can see why they get away with a fair few if the scumbags target the elderly.

Most people can spot them but if they spam enough accounts they'll always get a few.

Thing with this one is it co-incides with lots of peoples tax season if they have March year ends, and it doesn't look as shabby as some.
The major giveaway is that when you see where it's come from, it's an outlook.com account.
Must admit I get stuff from apple (never dealt with) UPS etc. Just more rubbish to delete.
Also get bombarded by Match.com and buy a bride sites. Don't understand.

Played mate.

I had a proper refund a few years back. No Email, just a letter. In a white envelope not a brown one!

Got a letter few weeks ago, you now have to register on one of the gov.uk portals to claim straight away or do nothing and iirc 45 days later they mail a cheque out. Was legit and seeing as any information about me the government can get from the CIA & the FBI I registered and it was in my bank 5 days later, quite handily paying for Christmas :)

Very true. Of course they're not targeting the elderly directly but they seem easier to snare. I'd love to know how many of these vermin get caught and what the punsishments are.

I've had an overpayment refund for the last three years. This year was just over a grand. It's a great feeling coming up to Christmas. Ok it's your money, but it's still a nice surprise.

Very few mate, as virtually all of them come from abroad.

I remember this episode of Fone Jacker, when " George " phoned up an old lady . She gave him her bank details, which were obviously blanked out for the show.

Only rebate I've ever had was a cheque for £1.20p

Weighed up the cost of putting it in the bank, decided to frame it.
About 10 years ago I received a letter and a cheque for £600. After much whooping and cheering I received another letter the very next day saying they had recalculated, there had been an error and I actually owed them £150.

I felt dirty.
