It's broke.

At least, the bridge to the forum is broke.

I didn't think anyone would be that arsed.

50 odd emails later, I was clearly wrong.

Anyway - it is broke because it needs upgrading.

Apple/Android are constantly meddling/updating requirements and we need to keep on our toes.

The app costs just above £300 a year to maintain (subscriptions to data streams, and to be in the app store).

However, development updates to the app incur a developer fee. Unlike elsewhere where I can blindly muddle through, I'm useless with apps and wouldn't know where to begin. A developer has quoted us £350 to fix it. This means;

* Fix Forum Access.
* Adding Adverts for rev. This way, whatever we raise we can keep an pay for app improvements.
* Everton Alerts News Menu/Feature. Basically a page that pulls from evertonalerts.com rss.
* Results - Cap per season Currently shows results since August 2013.
* Push notifications. The app seems to crash for a few minutes whenever we send them.

I loathe to put adverts in, but the thinking here is it'll need updating every year or so and if we're picking up revenue for it, then it'll bridge the gap.

Ordinarily, I'd just pay it, but I'm needing us to migrate to a new server (details to follow, but that's £75 a month/£900 a year).

So, if you use our app, and want to contribute - please do so here;

£350 seems slightly expensive considering the work that needs to be done.

Any chance of you uploading the source code to GitHub and making it open source?

Wouldn't know how to do this, and wouldn't that make it easy for others to replicate an app that cost us a good few quid to have an original app?

The developer is the lad who built the app for us (considerably cheaper than other quotes I got) and has done a fair amount of work for us in the past so I trust him. As well as all the above is the work to update the code base, or something.

I guess it would, but it'd massively lower the cost of maintenance going forward.

It's an option to you to consider, £350 for the work you listed there does seem a little high. I've done similar for considerably less.

Suppose there's always someone willing to do something for cheaper, his original quote to build the thing was a lot less than others and it's done us well since the summer of 2015.

We could have an app for free, but the developer would charge a fee to download the app and keep that money to maintain it. Wouldn't want to go down that route... :oops:

Unfortunately, I have no nous whatsoever on apps/development. I just know how I want the end product to look.

I can't remember the android version ever opening the forum inside the app. It always bumped me over to chrome to use the forum. I assumed that was by design. At any rate, my Forum Upgrade membership is up for renewal this month and I won't be cancelling so there's 20 quid.

Bin off the IOS and just leave it on android, its much cheaper and less restrictive than Apple make it, the horrors.

Haha, took a big enough kicking for not providing a Windows version - the iOS nerds would be out to get me.

Thanks Jake. It's definitely there mate, I'm on Android.

It would show the last few threads by new thread creation and on click, open within a browser in the app.

Slightly different note, but I remember seeing a GOT whatsapp mentioned somewhere? Where can I add it?

Sorry if not the right place, but this thread reminded me of it.

Yes mate. I stopped it last month.

We had to pay a set fee for the service + few pence for every subscriber, which was fine. But the software didn't allow the ability to know what members had lapsed (lost phone/changed phone/uninstalled whatsapp) and when you're paying for subscribers, i sadly had to bin it due to cost.

What???

I just thought there wasnt any news.

I'm on android and as a temporary fix just use the 'our forum' link at the end of the article titled "10m bid accepted" after scrolling down the home page.

Probably best to not use the app for the forum though.
