Of course, I'm open to any suggestions but I expect it would be extremely unlikely that any study in to redeveloping Goodison would conclude that it would be economically viable to redevelop it to the standards we require.
We're an ambitious, long-established Premier League club with money to invest, not a middling club like Forest or Leeds. Therefore, we need to properly invest in a new site that just goes beyond the capability that the existing Goodison site can offer. We need loads of corporate boxes, 100% unobstructed views and a capacity of 50,000 at the very, very least and of course, built to modern standards with modern engineering techniques and standards.
We also need space to be able to provide all the facilities a top Premier League club needs to offer these days - convenient on-site/numerous close parking facilities, spacious concourses, shops, restaurants, may be a hotel, space for independent food, drink and merchandise sellers etc.
I love Goodison, but I would be amazed if we attempted to redevelop it. I'd actually be worried that it would show a lack of ambition UNLESS we made the decision to actually spend a lot more on staying and redeveloping to the highest standards than it would cost to acquire land and build a brand new, purpose built stadium from scratch. A stadium is an asset and it needs to earn the club money. A modern stadium could host England games, concerts etc, all for nice tidy profits.
If/when we eventually re-locate, I only hope that is is either close to Goodison or (preferably for me) is closer to the city centre (i.e. - docklands north of the city centre), and that design cues (i.e. - the lattices) from Goodison are used in the design of the new stadium.
