Goodison

Of course, I'm open to any suggestions but I expect it would be extremely unlikely that any study in to redeveloping Goodison would conclude that it would be economically viable to redevelop it to the standards we require.

We're an ambitious, long-established Premier League club with money to invest, not a middling club like Forest or Leeds. Therefore, we need to properly invest in a new site that just goes beyond the capability that the existing Goodison site can offer. We need loads of corporate boxes, 100% unobstructed views and a capacity of 50,000 at the very, very least and of course, built to modern standards with modern engineering techniques and standards.

We also need space to be able to provide all the facilities a top Premier League club needs to offer these days - convenient on-site/numerous close parking facilities, spacious concourses, shops, restaurants, may be a hotel, space for independent food, drink and merchandise sellers etc.

I love Goodison, but I would be amazed if we attempted to redevelop it. I'd actually be worried that it would show a lack of ambition UNLESS we made the decision to actually spend a lot more on staying and redeveloping to the highest standards than it would cost to acquire land and build a brand new, purpose built stadium from scratch. A stadium is an asset and it needs to earn the club money. A modern stadium could host England games, concerts etc, all for nice tidy profits.

If/when we eventually re-locate, I only hope that is is either close to Goodison or (preferably for me) is closer to the city centre (i.e. - docklands north of the city centre), and that design cues (i.e. - the lattices) from Goodison are used in the design of the new stadium.
What about the posts tho, part of our history.

Need more corporations first.

If tidy = small then yes. Concert game has squeezed arenas dry. Most big name artists take up to 90% of the profit. The facility fee -- the arbitrary $1.50 they tack on for no justifiable reasons -- is actually the best source of revenue for a venue.

We can do everything we need in Goodison; maybe not everything everyone wants.

Now that there appears to be serious money in play, I imagine Kenwright will happily go back on a few of the porkies he told regarding a potential redevelopment when he was flogging Kirkby.

Cash coming through the turnstiles is a drop in the ocean when it comes to a Premier League club's turnover, so I don't see why this wouldn't at least be explored. If they could find a way to take the capacity up another five thousand and bring in a decent number of executive suites, then we'll be set.
Is right. Gate money doesn't really count, not at our price levels and we don't want to pay 60/70quid...do we?

2 sides... Improve 1side at a time, and the footballing side=sorted

Lids, I'm currently in Bilbao where I've been to 4 games in the city over the weekend, culminating in my first visit the new San Mames to see Athletic v Betis last night.

I loved the old San Mames, and it just purred on a proper matchday and was in so many ways similar to our Old Lady. I was saddened when they decided to knock it down and build a new super-duper-dome, but they've managed to pull it off in my eyes.

The ground is akin to Arsenal's and Benfica's, but the exterior lights up which is a nice touch. What wins it, though, is that they built it on the exact same site as the original San Mames, and it's for this reason why I really liked it last night. If it was an out-of-town 'sport city arena' type of jobby, it would have been just as soul-less as all the other new identikit stadiums that we all hate. All that comfort but with cack all soul. Bilbao still have that - aside from he usual Spanish crowd who tend to sit and munch on seeds anyway.

I sat there pre-match last night and imagined that ground bedecked in blue seats. We'd make that kind of place rock, but its all about the location for me. Get it wrong with a move to a no-mark site and it won't work. Get it right - ideally on the current Goodison site, or down the river (Kings Dock revisited!) and it'd be hard-on territory for this Blue.
Any pics?:)

Looking to get my first season ticket this year, at present it's between the park end and the top balcony. Love both and want to at least have had one season ticket in case the move is closer than anticipated.
