There was no football during the second world war but older lads and adults talked about the football league and the FA Cup. An older lad who we played football with threatened to beat up me and my brother if we didn't support Everton. What a favour he did for us! Saw my first game at Goodison in 1946 and my proudest memory is of being in the boys' pen when Goodison had its record crowd of over 78,000 in season 1948/49. It was against Liverpool and was a 1-1 draw with Jock Dodd's scoring for Everton from the penalty spot. Sadly, my Dad's job moved us to Leeds in 1951 and then my own job moved me down South in 1969 where I have been ever since. Don't get to any games, but my grandson, a Nottingham lad, is at Liverpool Uni and is a season ticket holder at Goodison. He gives me a match report on the telephone after most games.
Been a frustrating season, lets hope the summer brings some key signings and a new manager.
