Goals on Sunday

Reflection on the west ham game to yesterday.

Koeman changed the tactics when faced with the inevitable tide turned in the game and we then killed them off as a result. A tactical change from the manager was spot on and it was the difference between a massive turn around and another 3 points.

Martinez last season a man down and a 2 goal lead and he brought niasse on. Didn't change the tactics and gave no real instruction to the sub. We went on and lost the game.

So there is your difference in the two managers right there

That's a fairly simplistic view of it really, and doesn't tell the whole story.

1st of all, we played the majority of the game with 10 men, but dominated the game and looked the only team who were going to win it, much like yesterday.

We went 2 up and then had an opportunity to make it 3 which we obviously missed. That gives the other team a massive lift, especially knowing we will be tiring. If they can get a goal, it might be on.

At this point, u have 3 choices. Leave it as is, bring on a defender and shut it up, or bring on legs up front to try and stretch them, give them something to think about. Bare in mind, we were dominating at this point, and only minutes earlier, could've put the game to bed.

Noone knows which is the correct decision until the game is finished, and that's the luck of the draw.

Unfortunately, they score the next goal, they are back in the game, another lift.

Our crowd turns nasty, they score another, it's level, and they are now full of confidence, and our team, fully dejected, tired having played a man down for half a game, and with the crowd in meltdown mode, heads go down.

These games can change on any number of small moments, and it's easy to say in hindsight what they are.

Martinez played the wrong hand a few times, and he paid the price by losing his job. But I just don't understand why people continue to have a go at him now. It just baffles me.

I hate that even now, 9 months after he left, i still feel I have to defend Martinez as much as I do, and most of it is because the complete vitriol levelled at him without the slightest hint of reason. More decorated managers than him have failed in bigger and smaller jobs than Everton, without a fraction of the hatred levelled towards him.

Like I said in previous posts, despite what Martinez may have said in his 1st interview, he and Koeman were signed with very different objectives and different limitations. Comparing the 2 is just pointless.

It didn't work. We've moved on. Stop comparing every positive result with every negative result of Martinez unless you are going to offer a fair and objective balanced view of the pros and cons of both.

I was b=nervous, and I knew the result for

Ha Ha. Outplay 10 men for almost the whole game and it still gets stick.

Mate, these same players from yesterday bottled it last season and they would have again if Lukaku hadn't been in form...which he would have done, coincidentally, last season in that WHU match if he'd slotted a pen...these things turn on very small matters. Hero or zero are closely related impostors.
Defo agree with this, you can be a decision away from all or nothing.

Our crowd turned nasty because of the crap they were used to. We conceded goals because we lost a man in midfield thanks to the Niasse sub and like Billic said in his post match presser that day, he knew that we don't defend well and we don't defend crosses well so just keep crossing the ball. Fortunately we put in a professional performance against them this season and beat them 2-0. Make all the excuses you want for Martinez but 99% of Evertonians know 21 wins in 75 is inexcusable. So you'd be wasting your time. He's a garbage manager who has taken the two PL clubs back 7 places from where he picked them up, that relegated Wigan (who still haven't recovered) and Koeman is currently resuscitating Everton.

Like I say keep making excuses. But never forget 21 wins in 75 PL games is inexcusable, basically you're wasting your time.

But Esk didn't post this one Friend . In December, when it was reported everywhere that we were after Lookman and Schneiderlin (as early as September 2016 for the latter), one naughty chap who has been shown up for this posted the following;

Any thoughts on Taylor and Ghezzal mein frandel?

How about Strootman

What exactly is your point?

He's basically defending Dave by criticising you for being wrong about something.

Which is a real head scratcher.

Thank you.
If only everything came off in football all the time.
At the time of posting DaveK has 59 posts since midnight nearly all criticism of Koeman.

This is the same man who said last year that Koeman is heir to the throne at Arsenal.

Exactly. But he's just a blue with a differing opinion. That (opinion) HAS to be rammed down everyone's throats over and over and over and over and over again.

Not even remotely what I've said Ian.

I've said that a poster who tells porkies on this account (and his previous account) has no real right to demand a call to action from the moderation team.

Jinky not being able to take a vaulting again. Gooooooooooooooooooooooooal

I'm sure you have mention he's just a guy with a differing opinion. (Which is fine BTW) it's the repetition that is clear goading.

I agree Ian the constant ganging up of posters with dubious records on consistent persons like David are utterly unsavoury, made worse by the repetitive attritional nature of it all.

My goal this Sunday is to highlight this injustice

It'd be a clash of the dubious records it that were the case.

Right wrong whatever

Exactly Mike.

Who is the say what is right and what is wrong (apart from sharing dressed up dog pictures with others which is 100% wrong).

What worries me is that one side is trying not to debate with the other, but silence it altogether.

Like burning books.
