Goals on Sunday

“First 30 minutes, I thought Everton were magnificent, dynamic, they took the opportunity, starting the game, they had doubts, Bournemouth changing the system and they were ruthless, clinical. But even then, at 3-2 Bournemouth looked like the team that would win the game.”

Is he messing? As soon as Bournemouth scored their second, Everton took command of the game against and just thrashed them.

Can't wait for him to ruin Belgium's golden generation.

He is destined to end up as some third division Spanish team's manager.

He was probably having flashbacks to the last two seasons like the rest of us

I dont think anyone can say fairer than that.

It remains to be seen what we can achieve now. I suspect not that much more than a flirtation with a trophy and top four finish that we've seen under both Moyes and Martinez.

Dave, of course you're entitled to your opinion and misgivings but, and it's a big but, you have to accept that El Bob is now part of Everton history and try to accept that, irrespective of your personal feelings, Ronald Koeman is the present and immediate future.

Try to embrace it, the only thing that really matters to us all is that Everton return to success and sustained success as quickly as possible, and play with the swagger of the 69/70 and mid 80s teams will be a massive, massive bonus for us all.

Oh I will. I have NO intention of cutting my nose off to spite my face. If any manager brings success I will be up to my elbows in it. I just cant stand the hypocrisy over Martinez and the accompanying 'Koeman is the greatest thing since sliced bread'. It's utter BS and mere caricature. I think we have a determined but limited manager on our hands here. If he proves to be more than that I'll gladly acknowledge it.

“As a fan you always want to see teams scoring goals and winning games. This performance was about that,” Martinez said.

“The only worry is that we had defensive fragilities last year and they cost us too many points.

“The performance was going in the right direction, you are doing everything right and then one action you look fragile.

“I can see the same things still now.

“Three goals in the first 30 minutes and I thought Everton were magnificent, but at 3-2 Bournemouth looked as if they were going to get back into it.”

Oh really?

But we didn't roll over like when you were in charge, clueless clown.

Still 4th best defence in PL.

There is no if. What if you won the 2 SF? What if you got CL?

All due respect, but were you watching the game? Like Martinez or hate him, the mood in the ground when Bournemouth scored their 2nd and then had 3 good chances that Joel saved, does not tell the story you are trying to sell. It looked for all the world that we were going to throw it all away, until Rom scored the 4th, and then 5th, in quick succession.

It's pretty easy to say that now, but at 3-2, it felt very much like it did under Martinez.

A better Evertonian than this current one or his predecessor in the job. No one thought/will think fondly of either of those after they left/leave.

The feller is class.
Whatever else he is he has never been nor never will be an Evertonian. It takes far more to be an Evertonian than chatting sales rep. style platitudes and sticking a few pictures up at Finch Farm. Good way to get impressionable fans on board for your misguided philosophy though.

I was at the game.

At no point throughout the entire math did I think that Bournemouth were going to win.

They got their second and we took control of the game when they all piled forward to attack.

It showed the quality of the two teams.

What was a bit concerning was what he said about the FA Cup win the wigan. Asked if Wigan's FA Cup run contributed to their relegation he said yes.

He kind of blamed it on the fixtures, as there were still premier league matches to be played after the cup final. He said it cost them at least 4 points.

I'm sorry but if you are in a relegation battle, you have to prioritise the league over the cups. The financial implications on a club like Wigan going down are just too great. The fact that he intimidates that Wigan could have stayed up had it not been for their cup victory is pretty shocking.

Take cup competitions seriously but never at the expense of sacrificing the league.

I think the point he was making is that traditionally, the FA cup final is the last game of the season, so had it still been, he believes they would have had a better chance of staying up, and then go on to play in the final.

As it was, they won the cup, celebrated as you would, then rightly or wrongly, found it hard to refocus.

Well good for you, but I certainly don't think I was alone in thinking we were going to collapse.

Luckily for us, Rom was in rare form and was having absolutely none of it.

I like Martinez as a man, but he was just too stubborn to change things when quite clearly they weren't working. In that first season of his though, at one point I genuinely believed that we may just do it and win the league, it just went downhill quickly after that!
There is no doubt we would've lost that game yesterday had he still been in charge but that's all history and we have a manager now who slowly looks to building something good here.
