Goals from our CBs

When Martinez first came to us and played that friendly against Accrington Stanley I thought we were going to come up with these boss routines from corners. Remember Gibsons goal? Lovely set piece, id like to see more of those

Do we? Examples please.

you're joking if you think i'm going to go through all our corners to pick out examples.

one example is the fact we scored pretty much no goals from whipping the ball in the box. we rarely took it short but when we did, IMO we created more changes/looked more dangerous.

I actually thought that for Alcaraz looks a real threat from set pieces when he played. Shame about that defending thing that he wasnt so proficient at.

Our CBs arent very good in the air attacking or defending. On the ground there aren't two better defenders for dealing with fast tricky forwards running the channels. They are the type of pairing that in one gamd will shut out Aguero and Silva but in the next one will make Arouna Kone look like Drogba because they cant deal with high balls.

I've honestly still not forgiven them for the 2-2 at home to Newcastle. We were better that night for 90 mins than we were for the 3-2 game last season. Despite this we conceded from their only two chances one of which was a goalkeepers free kick that bounced between them. I dont even want to talk about what the pair of them do at corners during derbies but that disease seems to affect the whole team so I'll leave it.

On average there's one goal every ten games from corners. Hardly worth worrying about.
That stat improves if it's done well though. Set pieces at both ends can have a big impact on where a team finishes. It's something we should definitely be looking to improve upon.

No goals from 'whipping the ball in' is exactly my point. Why do we score so few?

I would rather spend the time in training on practising methods which are more likely to score us goals, such as free kicks and open play routines.
