Rankin played quite a number of game for the blues 106 games to be accurate, former police cadet - he was sometimes great other times a bit shaky , but a real good backup for Westy who was injured on and off with his thigh - Rankin though on a run kept Westy out of the team - Rankin was famous for his save, and a great game that night in the first ever pen shootout v Borussia Mönchengladbach !The only goalie I can remember that came through the ranks and played regularly was Andy Rankin, he replaced West a few times and Catterick was fair on this, if you did the biz you stayed in, iirc, he only ever lost his place when he got injured.
IMO, very under rated
a very capable no 2
