Goal droughts

Wow. The Yak probably has a case for being the Premiership's most underrated striker ever.

Make that 5 years!!!

2003-4 (Joint 6th) Portsmouth (16 goals)
2004-5 (Joint 4th) Portsmouth (13)
2005-6 (Joint 8th) Middlesborough (13)
2006- 7 (Joint 8th) Middlesborough (12)
2007-8 (Joint 5th) Everton (15)

He then reappeared in 2011-12 (Joint 5th) Blackburn 16

I tried to stick to league games so that it was a level playing field.

so only mackie and welbeck (two substitute strikers) had a worse record? not a very good perspective haha. overall though, before this drought jela hadn't been more than 3 games without scoring, that was very impressive

Chelsea only have two strikers (Torres and Demba Ba) and so do Spurs (Defoe and Adebayor). Torres (11) and Defoe (9) have had a comparably difficult time in front of goal to Jelavic.

Welbeck has made 22 Premier League appearances and Jela has made 28. United would be on the front foot and Welbeck would have had a strike partner. He's also likely to be coming on fresh while defenders are tired. Whereas Nikica would have had to do a lot of work by himself without the support of other forwards or midfielders, so it's all relative.

I loved him so much in 2007/08, but after that injury, not so much.

Lets not forget we strugled to unload him for £1.5m.

Yep and went on to have yet another double figure season for Blackburn whilst getting relegated. We only got that for him because he wanted off which doesn't leave you with a lot of bargaining power.

Seems as soon as Torres scores he just rejoins the list and starts again

It's a bit like shooting practice at summer Training. You hit one, score, then go to the back of the queue to wait for your next go, kicking tufts of grass that have been left from the 'first cut'.
