I will agree with that - their placing on the bill was really weird to me
I think the main issue with The Manics is they are a bit too prolific.

By that I mean they always seem to be on tour somewhere, I have seen them as headliners, as a support act and it some really small random events so I think them doing a show isnt seen as such a big deal which is a shame as they are fantastic.

So The Pretenders come on stage, they're headlining Glastonbury, they sing Brass in pocket, crowd goes wild.

Then what? There's like 2.5 hours to fill, the brass in.pocket remix?

It'd be like the disco on Father Ted where the only record they have is Ghost Town.
Is this a wind up?

Back on the chain gang
Brass in pocket
Stop your sobbing
Talk of the Town
I'll stand by you
Kid
2000 miles
Thin line between love and hate
Hymn to her
I go to sleep

...shove in a couple of UB40 hits and that'll give you a 90 minute set.

It's a matter of quality control.

I cant believe people want to see a big act in the twilight of their career and showing their limitations over a still at the top of their game big act.
Its not though!

The quality is irrelevent if people enjoy it!

And the quality allegedly was really good last night anyway so I dont really get your point in this regard. Your argument would make loads more sense if Elton John was crap last night but he wasn't.

If you have such strong opinions on this then just take Elton John out of the equation as an anomaly last night because doubling down on him being crap last night when he obviously wasn't is ludicrous/laughable!

She'll barely squeeze an hour out of that.
So, not her own back catalogue for a 2hr set then?

Keep flailing about mate.
You'll catch something eventually. 👍

The general populous (the target audience here) doesn't know most of these songs.

You know this.

(All good songs by the way)

Well I meant ones that people want to hear

It's a bit of a strange one with the Manics

They were probably the biggest British rock/alternative/indie band around the turn of the century - but, as you say, they consistently continued releasing new music since then - and the number of people buying it has dwindled (despite it being some of their finest stuff - both 'Journal for Plague Lovers' and 'Send Away the Tigers' are great albums)

There's a bit of a "Show us your setlist before we book you" about the situation. If they were to play

Motorcycle Emptiness
You Love Us
A Design for Life
From Despair to Where
Faster
Suicide is Painless
Kevin Carter
Everything Must Go
Your Love Alone is not Enough
Australia
If you Tolerate this...
You Stole the sun
The Masses against the Classes
The Everlasting
Motown Junk

Who would really argue that they shoudn't be in that Arctic Monkeys slot?
