Glasgow/Merseyside?

Thanks everyone for answering so quickly! It's just that everytime I speak to a Celtic fan up here, as soon as he clicks on that I'm a Rangers fan, I'm automatically labelled either a Chelsea, Everton or Newcastle fan. That's why I always assumed it was Everton/Rangers, Celtic/Liverpool. However, I think most people just see Everton in blue and think 'oh, they must be protestant,' the same way they hear Liverpool sing YNWA and think 'Oh, they must be Catholic.' The sectarian thing is a load of s**t anyway. Judging by the fact that Everton seem to be more inclined with Celtic, would I then be seen as odd for supporting both Rangers and Everton? Like, at games would I be alienated because of this? The two Everton games I've been to it's never been a problem, but then the topic has never really been talked about. It's just with all the ex-Rangers players plying their trade at Everton and with the nauseating Celtic/Liverpool love-in and even due to the colour of the Everton jersey, I've always been drawn to Everton. I mean, who in their right mind would support the RS?

KEEP BLUE AND CARRY ON

I prefer Celtic if I had to choose but that's just my personal choice and the fact they also sing if you know your history( even tho they also sing that pile of bollocks) but yeah if I had to choose It would be Celtic but rangers have grew on me lately with the Jelavic and Naismith link and also I like the fact goodison is very similar to ibrox, especially the side you see on the telly is virtually the same as the bullens with the traditional things there instead of advertisings

Traditionally it has been Everton = Catholic and Liverpool = Protestant therefore Everton - Celtic, Liverpool - Rangers but no one's been arsed for at least 20 years.

I'd probably say there's more Catholic Everton fans in comparison to Catholic Liverpool fans on Merseyside, though, based on the areas of the City that are more blue or more red and more Catholic or more Protestant, but that's just coincidence really.

In the past there's been half Everton/Celtic bobble hats and you mentioned the anti-Rangers line in 'Royal Blue Mersey' but that's just tradition now.

I think most Everton fans, as with most football fans in general, would just prefer both halves of the Old Firm rivalry to koff, really.

What parts of the city are more blue and what parts are more red? Anytime I come down, I stay in the Premier Inn in Vernon Street. In fact I was down just at the beginning of August. It s**ts on Glasgow anyway, thats for sure.

I know mate, I was shocked my first time at Goodison, at just how similar the two stadiums are haha :D

I'm Irish and I'm a "catholic" but for some strange reason I've always leaned towards rangers since I was a kid.maybe it was the blue jersey or just they were the better team at the time.

There aren't any in particular really, it's probably the most mixed city football wise in the country. There's no set areas whatsoever but I think there seems to be more Evertonians in the North End (Anfield, Walton, Everton, Croxteth etc) and the South (Aigburth, Toxteth, Dingle etc) seems to be more Red, but only marginally. Some people might completely disagree as this is only my little recent epiphany.

Yeah I only picked up on it really watching the last old firm where use won 3-2 when you twatted Celtic, only thing that I hate about rangers is you have had some scummy players down the years, el haj diouf is just a full on blurt! I'm starting to sway towards rangers lately though because in reality Neil Lennon is a knob! Can't stand him, he doesn't act in a professional way in which he should, arrogant **** with all the rangers going down to division 3 and them nailed on for the SPL for a while

Aww ok mate, I get you. In Glasgow, it's more set out. The east end (Parkhead, Calton, Gallowgate, Robroyston, Springburn etc) are all the Celtic areas, whereas the South Side is more Rangers, though some parts of the East end (Dennistoun, Shettleston and Bridgeton) are most definitely protestant/ Rangers areas.

In a nutshell in Merseyside the whole religion thing doesn't really come into account, most people support what their parents do!
I do think everton is more catholic though as my great grandparents who came over from Ireland a long time ago loved Everton even though they lived in Blackpool, and what they told me they hated Liverpool! Not sure why, just did, might be down to the fact my great grandmother knew Dixie Dean like!

Yeah, that game was one of the best OF games I've been to haha! I agree mate, the only thing he done for Rangers was bring yet more shame on the club, what with his antics at the "shame game". Yeah, though at least down in Liverpool, you aren't constantly bombarded with him haha! He's such an arrogant **** like people go on about the bombs sent to him etc, and I certainly don't condone this, but I feel he brings most of the trouble on himself, if I'm honest. The way he acts is disgraceful.
