EVERTON are poised to ease their striking problems by moving for Fiorentina’s Giampaolo Pazzini.

Blues manager David Moyes is close to tying up a six-month loan deal with a view to a permanent signing in the summer.

Pazzini, 24, first caught Moyes’ eye when he helped the Italian side dump Everton out of the UEFA Cup last season at the quarter-final stage.

He came to prominence in March 2007, when he scored the first official goal at the new Wembley Stadium — part of a hat-trick for Italy’s Under-21 team in a 3-3 draw with England.

But Pazzini, Italy’s Young Player of the Year in 2005, has hardly played for Fiorentina in their current campaign following the signing of Italian international Alberto Gilardino.

Now he is looking to revive his career and is rated keen to test himself in England.

Moyes is desperate for a new striker. Yakubu and James Vaughan are out for the season and Louis Saha has been missing for the past month.

I really hope this one has legs. I remember a few years back, he was touted as the next big italian striker. Moyes is very good at getting players who have lost their way playing top football again!!

Would be well happy with this one.

Never gotten 1st team football at Fiorentina though so I'd guess the majority of those are as a sub. Mutu and Gilardino (and before that, Bojinov) have gotten in his way.

When he was at Atalanta they were promoted then relegated back to Serie B - the whole team only scored 34 goals that season!

One thing though - surely Per Kroldrup's told him to stay well clear?!...

I like the sound of this one. Yeah, his record isnt steller but we're not going to get a striker that hits 30 goals a season are we?

He sounds like he has talant, he's young, and he's played at a high level in a very good team as well as under-21 international experience. He might just need a good run out in a good team able to create chances for him.

Bit out of left field this one and seems a reasonable rumour because its very plausable we could get him.

He doesn't seem very prolific though. 24 goals in 96 games for Fiorentina according to Wikipedia. Pretty much 1 in 4. Much the same ratio for the under 21's and Atlanta too.

Thing is thou bruce. if he was a 1 in 2 man, he'd be worth £20m an would be well out of our reach.

We have no money an it's a loan, could be good. Moyes brings the best out of players. Reserects careers.....

These rumours get sillier and sillier, no cat in hells chance of getting this fella.

He's 3rd choice striker aint he? Cant see a loan being out of the question if he's out of favour.

Agreed - plus Fiorentina's signing Kevin Monnet-Paquet (FM fans and Euro-buffs will know of him) and recently signed a young Brazilian Jeffersen and Montenegrin wonderkid Stevan Jovetic.

Maybe its not as silly as it first seemed then, the lad just seems a bit out of our league, would be a good signing.

saw him in the u21 international, he took the piss tbh. svored the fastest goal at either wembley, 1st at new wembley, 1st hat-trick at new wembley. the england team was all prem players like it wasnt kids who play reserve footy, so it's not like he was up against [Poor language removed] (apart from anton ferdinand).

i'd go for a loan with a buy option.

Don't want him unless he can play in midfield. Strikers are a thing of the past. We are the revolution. 4-6-0 is here to stay. Mark my words and watch this space as I merrily mix my metaphors

Its a good shout IMO.

And you know Moyes will slap the old "Och, option to buy at £3mill do yous at the end of the loan? Lovely" And if he came up trumps it'd be another Moyesy wonder buy.

If he's available surely the likes of Villa and the Geordies will be sniffing about, even pompey if Defoe leaves?
