Couldn't agree more mate. Very over-hyped and over-rated. You see him boss games against the likes of ourselves, West Brom, Portsmouth and maybe your Spurs and Aston Villas of the world. In Europe he can do it against the likes of Olympiaikos, Lille and Lazio. Against the top teams he'll have his moments as he is good but you never see him run games against top rate opposition either for the rs or England. Which is how I'd rate a great player. To sum up very good player and possibly great captain at club level

As you say, very good player/great captain. The suspicion is that the Gerrard myth has been created by hysterical commentators like Clive Tyldesley and Andy Gray. Dragging Liverpool to an unlikely win or ten does not a legend make. (y)

Yes, pretty good player, but not much more. He does the things really well that people remember such as getting a goal from distance etc.

He does not do it enough and on a regular enough basis to be considered world class. Hate to say it, but Ronaldo delivered in much much more games than Gerrard ever has.

But he is m8.
Liverpool would be a totally different prospect without him.
Having said that, they've never won the Prem either, so it's not like he guarantees success, but he is more than just ' a player '.
Any Liverpool fan looking back in 20 years will remember Gerrard as a hero lad.

What really?

Stephen Gerrard is/was a superb player, without doubt one of the best Midfielders in the world. Come on lads.

There's no questioning his ability to impact upon a match, but if you break his game down I'm struggling to come up with something that he does that others cant do. He's one of those all-rounders that people in other sports traditionally get acclaim in: a Botham, for example. I recognise his talents, but he cant hold a light to class like Messi or Ronaldo. As far as I'm concerned he's nowhere near as good as Giggs. Probably on a par with Scholes in his pomp.

It's that scoring boss goals at important times thing he does that makes me rate him, and his passing, tackling, engine and just all round play really.

Like I said, he's a belter though.

I agree, he's an all-rounder you'd saw your own arm off to have in your team. 'All time greats' as has been argued elsewhere? Not for me. Not by a long chalk.

When you look at the modern game, Beckham is the biggest of them all, but Gerrard will, and deserves to be, a footballing hero for generations of horrid little reds.
