Does anyone, or has anyone learnt this language! I'm probably going to end up working in Zurich sooner rather than later, and having this will more or less get me in the door, wondered how difficult it was.

Thanks fellow Huns x

I've been studying it for nearly 3 years now, in school, but I know nothing, except for some simple things and how to swear. We change teachers in that every few months, has to be said, and start from a different place and end up nowhere though, so...

Is it hard like? I've looked at a ten week course, bout £165 which gives me tier 1 difficulty.

I can remember a couple of things. Always prefered (found it easier) to learn German, than French at School. Not sure if that's normal or not mind. Good luck though dude

LiveMocha is a decent site for learning new languages.

It's free (though you can pay for extra tuition or something) - it kind of incorporates social networking, with members marking each other's work.

You get to speak with hot foriegn girls too, which is always good.

I'm learning french on there and have some lovely young Tunisian girl helping me.

Hmmm, that looks awesome. I may try that

I speak german reasonably well. Like any language, it's not going to be "easy". However, if you have a logical brain you should be able to piece together comprehensible sentences fairly easily and quickly. Thereon after it's all about learning the vocabulary, which i'll be honest, will take years and years to get to anywhere near a half decent level. If you're going to be living around german speakers though, you should pick it up a hell of a lot quicker than what I did learning here.

Learning any language to speak is a lot easier than having to figure out masculine/feminine/, word tenses etc. and all the stuff that you need to write essays in school.

Ask Chico, he's probably lived in Zurich.

I spent a long winter there seeking out nazi gold mate. I also invented the country of Lichtenstein.

Studying it now at uni; moving to Berlin on exchange for 7 months later this year. 2 weeks in and i've picked up so much. The hardest part of the language to learn is the fundamentals such as the genders of nouns, sentence structure etc. Once you've got that, it's actually really straight forward.
