Gerard Deulofeu

Everton will be without Gerard Deulofeu in Scotland but the recently-signed Spaniard is on track to be fit for the start of the Premier League season on 8 August.

“He felt his hamstring in the game against Arsenal,” said the manager. “It’s not a real concern, it’s an injury that I don’t think will stop him starting the league campaign.

“His physicality is that he is a sprinter and we need to make sure he is fully recovered before he is back on the pitch.

“He has put in a huge amount of work in pre-season. It is a little bit of a set-back but we will work to make sure he is back as soon as he can be.”

Martinez saying, '"it's a bit of a set back, but we will work to make sure he is back as soon as he can be" translates to, he's not going to be back until december.

Deja vu from when he was injured on his loan season and was out for weeks on end.
Not really, he was stretchered off in that game and was in agony ala Mirallas at Liverpool. Was clear that was a much more serious hamstring injury than just feeling the back of his leg like he did vs Arsenal.

Martinez said: "We don't know how big the tear is going to be but we expect Gerard to be out for some time. "It is unfortunate because I thought he was ready to play a big role."

Rather than the injury, I was referring to Martinez's referring to him as a sprinter and as such would need to 'fully recover' before he would return.

If I remember correctly, the estimates given at the time were reasonably below the time it actually took him to recover and return to the squad.

He seemed to be reaching fitness, but it was then extended due to being a 'sprinter' et al. Not saying it's the same, just it gave me deja vu.

Hopefully he will be back before the start of the season, yet going on experience of previous seasons I am not completely optimistic.

Indeed @Brennan, I just hope he isn't overly susceptible to these type of injuries.
