Shame to see it happen. I've read his book and although his life has been a sad story for a lot of times, made me laugh reading it. Really like Gazza, sad to see him ending up the way he has.

When was he on the rails? All he ever knew was playing football and when his body said no more, all he knew was the alcohol benders he got involved in whilst playing. He is a child. There are worse crimes than hitting women, it was the anniversary of the deaths of the two kids (goalkeeper) Luke McCormick killed a couple of days ago. And "from right wing to B wing" is not on my 'to read' list. Another rampant alcoholic got a standing ovation at Goodison, and he did not deserve the second chance liver he then poisoned like the first he was gifted.
Plenty of bad characters in football, plenty more involved in sport more broadly. I do believe Paul Gascoigne gets very harshly criticised, especially compared to some.
Still, his name flogs a few papers aye.

His life has been a tragic story really. Gascoigne was someone who clearly couldn't handle the pressure, attention and money football heaped on him. As said read his book and it's a funny but at the same time very tragic story. Don't condone his wife beating antics, but they are from a man who has completely lost his way in life.
