pgheverton

Player Valuation: £225k
does anyone know anything about this guy? i saw something on tv where he is having some kind of legal or marital trouble in italy or something like that. might be a good time to come to england. hes 29 years old and ive seen him play. hes mean and hard nosed and plays a very agressive style of football. and hes a very good player. i believe hes also adept at free kicks. he played for italy in the world cup and was great and ive seen him play i think hes with one of the milan teams or juventus maybe. would it be possible to save the $ were going to spend on defoe or this downing guy or other average players and maybe bring up some promising young players to play with gattuso? what would be the cost of transfer for a player of this caliber? theres also some current guys they could let go for salary space. i dont know what the contract situation is with any of the players though. im sure they could find some guys from this team to dump.

Were not signing Defoe? Please pay attention.

As for Gattuso, he's too old. 29 on his way down, we are now buying players who are on the way up.

I hate Gattuso with a passion. He's not hard nosed at all, he's a little shithouse who picks his targets carefully and would get twatted all over the show if someone stood up to him.

Think of him like an Italian Paul Ince, the bad bad snide.

Top work scout!

btw Gattuso plays for milan

based on his style of play i could more picture him in a blackburn kit then one of ours, but i'm with dixie on this, we're not like chelski who buy up players on their way down, i'd much prefer to invest in some younger prospects. gattuso is one of the few italian players i can stand, but unless he's on the market for dirt cheap i wouldn't want him.

also, i haven't heard any rumours about defoe, but i wouldn't wanna pay more than like 2mil for him, and he'll obviously go for a lot more.

maybe thats the kind of player we need. he seems like the toughest guy on the field in the games ive seen. hes played winning football. hes won the world cup. hes agreat player in the midfield and is adept at set pieces. whether he would get his ass kicked by you in the back alley is immaterial. hes agreat player. how much would it cost to bring him in and how much does everton usually spend in the winter transfer window?

i think hes 29 is what i heard thats not old. hell play a whole contract. youre going to get 5 years of an excellent player in gattuso. or you bring in this average guy downing and two other average guys for the same price. it just doesnt seem like the right thing to do. id rather have 1 good player and build young talent around them than continually bring in average guys. youll never get to the top that way

There is more than just grabbing a player and sticking him in a team. Our team has a work ethic and play for each other.

And Gattuso wouldn't come here. Why would he, we are not going to offer ridiculous wages for a player who is starting his decline. 26-29 used to be the peak age, but as Bruce pointed out in another thread, 29 is now on the decline side of the curve.

@Odd Guy

No, now listen for once.

He will play maybe one or two seasons at his best, and then it will be downhill. He will want a contract that would surpass 50k a month, and we are beyond spending that money on players who would not guarantee anything.

Instead we are investing in youth and buying players who are under 25. May I remind you that we are on the back of a 6 game winning run, so start having some [Poor language removed] respect for my team!

If not, then [Poor language removed] off!

The way we are going to get to the top is smart transfers and farming the youth into a top-quality side. Something we are doing right now. We have so many prospects in the Academy.youth/reserves that it is almost silly. Success doesn't happen overnight unless you get a billionaires backing. It is like building a house, foundations are laid otherwise the first time it rains the house comes tumbling down.

I'm reluctant to agree, both because there's no chance of him coming here and because pgheverton is crazy as a loon :D

but,

I'd take him in a heartbeat. A definate step up from Carsley and at 29, no older than Makalele when he arrived here from Real. The anchor role isn't the most athletically challenging so he could play into his 30's quite comfortably. Having said all of that he probably wouldn't help us to play a four man midfield as he needs Pirlo alongside him at Milan to play the passes.

Ok,

Would we pay more than Arteta and Cahill for him? Because if we do, they would want more. Thus rocking the boat.

He would cost over 5 million, and I think we can find someone cheaper and more suited to our club.
